We’re excited to announce that Saronic has been awarded a U.S. Navy contract to build Landing Craft Utility (LCU) vessels at Port Alpha, our next-generation shipyard in Brownsville, Texas.
Capable of transporting troops, vehicles, and up to 170 tons of cargo directly to beaches and unimproved shorelines, LCUs are essential to amphibious operations, resupply, and disaster-response missions.
As Port Alpha’s first build, this program marks an important step toward expanding America’s maritime industrial capacity. It also advances our mission to deliver the vessels the Navy needs today while building toward an autonomous maritime future.
Production is expected to begin in 2028, with initial deliveries planned for 2029. Read the full announcement: medium.com/saronic-technolog…

SpaceX has just officially announced Starbase, Louisiana, a new $100+ billion spaceport in South Louisiana near Pecan Island.
Construction starts in 2027, with the first Starship launch from the new site planned for 2029.
Starbase, Louisiana will be built to support thousands of Starship flights a year. This self-sustaining spaceport will have propellant production, power generation, deep-water shipping capabilities, vehicle processing facilities, and an airport.
SpaceX is committed to investing at least $100 billion and creating more than 3,000 new jobs at Starbase, Louisana hiring heavily from nearby communities and utilizing Louisiana workers’ extensive experience of building complex infrastructure in their unique environment.
In Vermilion Parish, the shoreline is eroding between 3.3 and 23 feet per year. SpaceX is partnering with state and federal agencies to expand Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan and Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act projects, including Gulf shoreline protection breakwaters designed to reduce wave energy and slow loss along the Gulf edge.

Tesla is naming its $10.1 billion solar manufacturing facility plan in Texas “Project Crystal Sun.”
• The project would create 9,712 permanent full-time jobs
• Entail a total of ~$10.1B in capital investment
• Total direct and indirect economic impact of the project would generate an estimated ~$6.4B in state and local taxes.
• It is estimated that the State of Texas would increase its GDP by ~$107 billion as a result of the project.
Tesla is planning to build a $10.1 billion vertically integrated solar cell manufacturing facility in Fort Bend County, Texas, about 40 minutes from Houston, according to a new public application filing.
Tesla is aiming to start construction this year and finish in 2028, with commercial operations starting in Q1 2029.
According to the application, the project would include:
• Wafer Manufacturing Equipment
• Ingot Manufacturing Equipment
• Coating Equipment
• Metallization and Printing Lines
• Cell Testing and QC Equipment
• Automation and Material Handling Systems
• Cleanroom and Production Support Improvements
• Site Infrastructure Improvements
• Chemical Storage and Delivery Systems
• Utility Infrastructure
• Environmental and Safety Systems
Project overview from the filing:
"Tesla is currently evaluating the development of a solar cell manufacturing facility located in Fort Bend County, Texas, within Lamar CISD’s jurisdiction, on the property identified by the parcel IDs listed below.
The proposed facility would be expected to manufacture photovoltaic solar cells and/or assembled solar modules, which are components used to convert sunlight into electricity. Operations at the proposed facility would focus on producing finished photovoltaic products for deployment in utility-scale, commercial, and distributed solar installations.
While specific design parameters may vary, solar manufacturing facilities of this type typically include industrial buildings housing production lines, supporting utilities infrastructure, warehousing for raw materials and finished goods, and related site improvements. The project would plan to be commercially operable in the first quarter of 2029.
In total, the project represents a capital investment of approximately $10.1 billion."
