After the #SchoolBusCuts, @SuffolkCC want to build a new 60-place car park at @ThurstonCollege - suffolk.planning-register.co…. But parent car parks are against SCC’s own Parking Guidance and School Travel Plan. What a mess! @FreeSchoolBus @BusSuffolk #SchoolTransportPolicy

I genuinely don't understand the total reluctance to sort this out. It's obvious to everyone what needs to change. Even Tory councillors are saying so openly. The obstinance from those in charge is staggering.

For those complaining about the BBC #LicenceFee just remember that it isn't just about TV stations. It helps fund quality journalism and has an important role to play in holding your government to account

You have until Monday 27th to share your views. We're concerned about the withdrawal of No 84 buses outside of school runs, especially the direct link to the Health Centre. Please have your say! @NHSWSCCG @jc4southsuffolk

bbc.co.uk/programmes/p07mstp… Just listened to this. To say an extensive consultation was done is a bit crass when you chose to ignore the results, of us who did complete it and you as a council @HicksCllr failed to engage those most affected by the end results.

.@HicksCllr the torrent of bad news is not going to stop. It reflects the stress, anger, confusion, and bewilderment at the absolute unfairness this ill thought out policy change has led to. What more evidence do you need the policy is a total shambles? Do something NOW!

Lesson 1 - don’t consult unless you are actually prepared to adjust policy proposals Lesson 2 - local communities know them better than you. Lesson 3 - admit and act on mistakes when there is clear evidence of harm to children

This is so sad. This does not set the child up in the right frame of mind for learning. #shameonyou #musttryharder all our kids deserve SAFE FREE bus travel. United with you.

Stop blaming parents @suffolkcc @HicksCllr - it was clear from the outset this was a confusing policy and bound to catch many unawares. Reverse it and end the chaos. eadt.co.uk/news/suffolk-scho…

Just been reading that #Leeds has announced its first #carfreeschool. Shame that @suffolkcc is working it’s way towards bus free schools. @BusSuffolk

Three changes that should be made immediately: 1. Exemptions for siblings 2. A spare seat guarantee for 5 years 3. End split villages These changes won't save this broken policy, but it will make life a little easier for families on the receiving end of these cuts.

.@Geates' piece this week primarily focuses on the 🔵on🔵 northern bypass fight, but this section on the ongoing school transport debacle is a real must-read. Angry, compelling and right. Read it in full here: eadt.co.uk/ea-life/tories-go…

I hate to say it but we told you so . This new policy is not fit for purpose and if SCC where a corporate entity providing a service, let’s say like a bank for example compensation claims would be coming thick and fast.
As if more proof were needed that @SuffolkCC can't actually implement it's own deeply flawed policy, @HicksCllr, parents are being sent incorrect bus passes. More work, more hassle, more stress #moreholesthanasieve

Intransigent. Obstinate. Thoughtless. Not characteristics we want to see in elected councillors. But some of the words that come to mind when @SuffolkCC councillors are asked to help residents caught in the #SplitVillages mess that is their new #schooltransport policy

Extraordinary suggestion from @SuffolkCC councillors this evening - parents of children in split villages (so denied the school bus) should ask local businesses to sponsor additional school transport! Wouldn't they expect businesses to be a bit more, well, business-focused?!

Did you hear about the one where @StaffordshireCC spent £44k on a jaguar car, £6m on staff lease cars, and £1099 on a chauffeur but cut school bus so kids have to walk an unsafe route to school? youtu.be/AAw-UbEeYhs Off to #ombudsmantime #nojoke bit.ly/2LQKLua

.@HicksCllr @suffolkcc - these headlines exist because the policy is so obviously flawed and unfair. Cutting school transport to legal minimums designed for urban areas was never going to work in rural areas. Reverse the policy and stop the harm suffolkfreepress.co.uk/news/…

I wonder how many children have been injured fatally or otherwise so far in 2018/2019 in Suffolk so we can compare to the figures for 2019/2020 following the cuts in school transport provisions for many.
We would have hoped this was something for @SuffolKCC to think about too, but it seems not. This September there will be more children walking and more cars on our rural roads
