Why Making Plans, Not Decisions, Is The Key To Consistent Trading Profits
Everyone struggles with making decisions when it comes to trading.
I did for years. I remember staring at my screen, heart racing as prices plummeted, feeling the pressure to sell to cut losses, only to watch it rebound moments later. Or I was hesitating on a buy signal, missing the initial surge. It was frustrating; my portfolio was a roller coaster reflecting my indecision and gut-reaction moves.
In time, I realized that trading is not about making quick decisions but rather about having a well-planned and thought-out strategy. Once I understood this, it became easier to overcome the challenge of decision paralysis. It turned out that I was struggling because I was focusing on the wrong thing.
Here's what I should have done from the start:
Make a trading plan for the relevant potential scenarios.
Before entering any trade, I set clear entry points, exit points, and stop-loss levels. This plan includes what to do if the market moves in my favor, against me, or sideways. By planning for uncertainty, I've removed emotion from my trades and made my process systematic.
Why does this work? Because it brings structure to the chaos of market conditions, which can change rapidly. By crafting a plan considering different market behaviors, you're equipping yourself with a guide to navigate this complexity. This strategic blueprint enhances the consistency of your trading outcomes and instills a sense of control. You're no longer gambling on hunches but executing a strategy that plays out (or doesn't) over time, turning the once chaotic market movements into opportunities you're prepared for.
Master your trades by planning, not guessing or reacting, and watch your trading game—and your profits—transform.

I have had several mentors during my trading career.
I got to work hands on with a few awesome traders. Others I'll unfortunately never meet but they have vast documented works to study. I've learned numerous valuable lessons I want to share with you.
This is lesson two...
"Trade with purpose, not just to participate. Every trade demands a clear setup, a defined trigger, and a deliberate follow-through."
The essence of this lesson lies in the structured approach to trading. It's not about making trades for the sake of being active in the market. It's about understanding that every trade should be a calculated decision.
A clear setup involves understanding the market conditions and patterns that can be easily identified and replicated. Define specific criteria so that if anyone looks at the same chart, they come to the same conclusion you do.
The trigger is your signal to enter a trade. It should be a specific, identifiable event or based on your setup. This could be a particular price point, oscillator measurement, or a change in market dynamics. The trigger is what moves you from planning to action.
Finally, follow-through is about planning how to manage the trade once you're in it. This includes setting your profit targets, deciding on stop-loss limits, and having a strategy for adjusting your position as needed. A trade isn't just about getting in at the right time; it's also about managing the position effectively and exiting at the right moment.
Following this process, you transform your trading from random actions into a purposeful journey towards success. It elevates your approach from faulty discretion to strategic execution.
Remember, in the trading world, every move should be a calculated step toward your goal, not just a leap in the dark.

There is one fundamental piece to trading you must accept.
Price Action is King.
It is the very heartbeat of the market.
Price action is the visual representation of buying and selling over some period of time.
Traders often venture into the labyrinth of technical analysis. We create structures and embrace models like Wyckoff, Price Cycles, Fibonacci Sequences, and Elliot Wave Theory. Many utilize tons of indicators searching for the holy grail.
The supremacy of price action remains unassailable.
It’s a stark yet straightforward truth: Price action does not conform to the analytical structures we impose upon it.
No matter how convincing our patterns or indicators may seem – bull flags, wedges, moving averages – they all pale in comparison to the current sentiment of the market. The market's rhythm, dictated by the continuous interplay of buying and selling, can invalidate the most sophisticated tools at any moment.
All the best and fanciest models can be rendered useless just because someone hits the buy button.
Recognizing the importance of price action is crucial to redefining one's approach to trading. It is the final say, the confirmation or invalidation of all your ideas. Pay attention to price instead of merely interpreting its data.
Price action is the primary factor in trading, with everything else being secondary.
Ignore it, and eventually, you will be wrecked.
Understand it, and you can develop a more authentic connection with the market.

My early trading career was challenging and unprofitable.
A constant urge to stay active led to frequent, unwise trades. Patience was missing in my approach, and I often over-traded.
Opportunities in trading are like ocean waves: endless and varied. Not all deserve attention. Focus on high-probability setups.
I began waiting for setups where conditions aligned with my trading idea, leading to a pivotal change. Quality over quantity became my mantra in trading decisions. This realization also altered how I viewed others' success in trading. Previously, others' wins created pressure on me to perform. I learned that my trading path is unique, not dictated by others' achievements. My portfolio is my responsibility. My standards are the only ones I need to meet.
The change in perspective was extremely important. It's not just about strategies but also a patient, focused mindset. Detaching from all the noise was key.
This mindset shift led to consistency and success in trading. It transformed my entire approach.
Patience and focus in trading: the true game-changers.

Good risk management for trading is...
A stop loss placed under market structure or support.
Not an arbitrary % below your entry that you change every trade.
Not how much you can lose before panic selling.
