We always have such a great time at the WABA Build My Future event! 🚧👷🏾‍♂️🔨⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ Nearly 1,500 students from area high schools got to explore careers in the skilled trades through hands-on activities and experiences with industry professionals.⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ Our Construction, Diesel Technology and Interactive, Digital & 3D Technology (ID3D) programs, along with @WorkforceButler's Fiber Optics, Flooring and Drone Technology programs, were there to give students a look at some of the exciting opportunities available at Butler!⁣⁠ From flying drones through an obstacle course to installing flooring and exploring virtual reality, students got to see what learning these skills can actually look like. 👀⁣⁠ ⁣⁠ We love seeing the next generation get excited about their futures! Mentors Mike Swan and Lance Hayes made a lasting impact during his time at Butler as he began building the skills and experience that would shape his career.⁣⁣ ⁣ After graduating from Butler, Pletcher transferred to KU to continue pursuing sports broadcasting. Near the end of his time there, he discovered a new path in college athletics public relations — a career he has now spent 12 years pursuing at Wichita State University.⁣⁣ ⁣ Looking back, Pletcher knows where that journey began.⁣⁣ “I wouldn’t be where I am today without Butler.”⁣⁣ ⁣ And when it comes to being a Butler alum? One of the coolest parts of being a vocal music student at Butler is getting to learn from people who are out there doing what you hope to do someday! 🎶✨ Rayna J, who has toured with Broadway’s The Book of Mormon and performed in Hairspray with Music Theatre Wichita, spent time with our students earlier this semester to share her experiences and give them a glimpse of what’s possible in the world of music theatre. Experiences like these help our students make connections, find inspiration and see where their own talents could take them!

That decision helped set him on a path toward a career in education.⁣⁣ ⁣ One of Haines’ most memorable experiences at Butler came in American History with Ed Walborn, who brought Teddy Roosevelt’s famous call to “Charge” to life by stepping onto a desk and leaping forward.⁣⁣ ⁣ Haines went on to spend 41 years teaching, along with additional classes throughout his career. A behind-the-scenes look at a pretty special piece of Butler history! 🎶 Composer Grace Baugher-Dunlap joined our musicians at rehearsal today to fine-tune “Centennial Pulse,” an original piece she was commissioned to write in honor of Butler’s 100th anniversary. How cool is it that our culinary students get opportunities like this? 👀🍽️⁠ ⁠ Six students from the Redler Institute of Culinary Arts recently got to serve as judges for a Chopped-style cooking competition featuring chefs from Legend Senior Living, putting their culinary knowledge to work as they evaluated cooking skills, plate presentation, use of the secret ingredient and taste.⁠ ⁠ They handled the whole experience like pros, and even better, got a firsthand look at another career path they could pursue in the culinary industry.
