Sacramento is about to lose its three dedicated sportswriters at The Bee. To every local athlete: high school, college or pro give Joe Davidson, Jason Anderson and Chris Biderman something unforgettable to write about before Oct. 9. This city still needs sportswriters.

After hours of film study and listening to every football analyst in America, we’ve cracked the code: Win the trenches. Don’t turn it over. Make fewer mistakes. Score more points. Groundbreaking. BUZZED STATE PICK: SAC STATE 24 FRESNO STATE 21 SAC by 3. I said what I said.

All jokes aside, in an era of 2,000-mile conference trips, we need to protect old regional rivalries and create new ones. Sac State–Fresno State makes too much sense: close enough for fans to travel, meaningful to both communities and capable of becoming something real.

Sac St–Fresno St should be annual and it needs a trophy. “Battle for the Valley” is taken, what should we call this one? Be nice… Trophy idea: a mounted chunk of crumbling Highway 99 asphalt. Nothing says Valley football like playing for the road that brought you there.

Remember Pat Hill’s Fresno State teams? “Anyone. Anywhere. Anytime.” They recruited the Valley, challenged anybody and earned national respect. Pat Hill at Fresno State (1997-2011). Can Sac State build its own version of what he created in Fresno? #AnyoneAnywhereAnytime

Missed the MVSU game with an undisclosed issue and is currently listed as questionable for Fresno State.

Jackson Sharman loves long walks on the beach and California sunsets. We have no idea if that’s true. What we know: The Torrance native and Idaho State transfer stepped in and threw for 247 yards and four TDs in his first Sac State start a 52–0 win. #sachornetsfb #buzzedstate

Agreed. (2005-2008) Not a national title game but 362 days later we were blessed with arguably one of the best games period. Boise State vs. Oklahoma (2007 Fiesta Bowl).
