In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

The college crisis is a crisis of meaning; colleges have forgotten why they exist. Turning small, liberal arts colleges into career-readiness institutions with bloated sports programs has nothing to do with the value of the liberal arts as understood historically.

Profound statement I heard from a church planter recently: "...I thought if I mixed together my favorite liturgical, pentecostal, missional, and theological sensibilities it would be a church everyone loved, instead it's a church that no-one is really happy with."

On this feast day of Saint Oscar Romero, let's listen to him: "This is the mission entrusted to the church, a hard mission: to uproot sins from history, to uproot sins from the political order, to uproot sins from the economy, to uproot sins wherever they are..."

When toxic, antiracism not only delays freedom but militates against it. That much needed to be said & likely could only be shown. VL did both. The ensuing deflections on the one side & appropriations on the other help make his point. Is power involved? Sure. But when is it not?

You may have heard of “The Body Keeps the Score” by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk. It’s constantly recommended as the seminal work on trauma. No doubt it’s a valuable and important book. But a few things to know:

I've spent a fair amount of time the last few years talking with parents, teachers, etc., about technology. While I always insist that the issue starts and ends with "us," not "kids these days," people always want to talk about kids.

If you've heard me preach on immigration anytime in the last 7 years, you've probably heard me open with a troubling statistic: just 12% of evangelicals say they think about immigration primarily from a biblical perspective Today, I have good news: that's no longer true [thread]

Our ethical imagination as Christians is better served relentlessly seeking to avoid violence than finding reasons to justify it.
