Ours is an interesting story!
Founded by missionary Dr. Scott Kellermann, Bwindi Community Hospital began as an open-air clinic under a tree.
Today, we are a 155-bed hospital offering specialized services for the people of Kanungu and beyond.

Bwindi Community Hospital is participating in the 20th Joint Annual Scientific Health Conference and 2nd NACNDC conference, where we are showcasing our work in One Health Surveillance in communities neighboring the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The 8 day surgical camp will start tomorrow, Saturday 24, 2026
We will be providing life-changing, free treatment to women living with childbirth- related obstetric fistula.
It will also be a training opportunity for our staff.

Jasper Kebirungi is a Psychiatric Clinical Officer at @BwindiHospital.
She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Community Psychology and Psychotherapy at Lira University.

To join the mental health field, Jasper was inspired by her desire to understand people and support those experiencing psychological and emotional challenges.

Meet Mukama Isifu, Psychiatric Clinical Officer @BwindiHospital. With 3 years in mental health care and 11 months at Bwindi, his journey was inspired by a family member who lived with schizophrenia but never received help.
Isifu’s mission is clear: to see patients handicapped by mental illness recover to full functionality. He emphasizes psychoeducation and psychosocial support, helping families reaccept loved ones they had once abandoned.

For 4+ years, he’s been on the frontline of mental health care offering assessments &counselling those facing mental health challenges.
Robert’s inspiration comes ftom realizing many suffer silently due to stigma and fear. He chose a profession where he could listen without judgement, support recovery, and help families understand mental health better.
