Respectfully, FDA records don’t “surface” on their own. @cbsnews obtained these reported deaths through a FOIA request.
Your peptides may be coming fentanyl suppliers.
Anhui Renchen Technology was indicted in 2023 for supplying the Sinaloa Cartel with fentanyl precursors.
Their website currently sells semaglutide and melanotan II.
Of roughly 200 Chinese firms TRM Labs tracked selling fentanyl precursors, at least 50 now sell peptides.
The shipments enter the US in “master cartons” mislabelled as snack food, broken up by a domestic handler and mailed on. CBP has intercepted around 400 of those operations and seized over 130,000 vials in the past year.
FDA records surfaced showing two deaths, one in July and one in September, reported after people injected untested black market retatrutide.

New: We found cops who kept using Flock to spy on women after they left the force.
One used it for five years after retirement, spying on his wife during a custody battle.
Another ran searches while he was suspended (and later fired) after killing a 15-year-old boy.

O.J. Simpson. A secret informant. The missing murder weapon. An accomplice tale. And law enforcement records that were kept secret for 30 years — until now.

Eli Lilly CEO weighs in on our @CBSNews report
Two souls are dead because they self administered something purporting to be the most powerful metabolic agent ever developed - without medical supervision, before the inventor has asked for approval and sourced from a Chinese “lab” seeking to make a quick buck.
Peptide World - “Lilly made this up”.

The Food and Drug Administration received reports in recent months that two people died after taking bootleg versions of an experimental weight-loss drug, according to documents reviewed by CBS News.
The reports link the deaths to products claiming to be retatrutide, a drug being developed by Eli Lilly that hasn't been approved by the FDA. Federal law prohibits the commercial sale of unapproved drugs, but that hasn't stopped vendors from selling imitation versions of the experimental drug online at a scale with no modern precedent.

NEW: The FDA received reports in recent months that 2 people died after taking bootleg versions of the experimental weight-loss drug retatrutide. The reports are unverified. But as one expert told me,“it is concerning b/c of the breakdown of the drug approval process in the USA”

Imagine being a high level government official cheering on the bombing of a country and the killing of individuals over a Signal chat, and then seeing:
"Jeff Goldberg left the group."
The chat has finally been officially released to me by ODNI in response to my #FOIA request.
About half of patients with Jenna Smith's rare disease had kidney failure within a decade. Hers failed in under a year after being diagnosed.
She'd just finished first grade.
And so began a girl's ordeal and a father's quest for a cure.

A federal judge on Thursday sentenced the owner of a peptide company to nearly six years in prison after he admitted he built a massive business by deceiving customers and selling products that were adulterated with steroids.
Matthew Kawa, who ran Paradigm Peptides, pleaded guilty last year to selling unapproved drugs and illegally importing them. @adamyamaguchi reports.

Replying to @VPrasadMDMPH
@VPrasadMDMPH critiqued our @cbsnews reporting on retatrutide, but misses the point. We’re not making “emotional arguments”. We’re investigating an unprecedented marketplace for a drug the FDA hasn’t approved. There is *no* branded drug.
And of course we don’t have reliable data to show rates of adverse events linked to retatrutide obtained from research-use vendors and compounding pharmacies to compare with clinical trials. But if anyone does, we are continuing to report
