Asked Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson yesterday about Mike Gansey:
“I still can’t get over how nice a person he is. I didn’t know people like that existed, like, in the world.”
Read loooots more about Gansey’s journey below!👇🏻
Ahead of the Sixers’ home opener, went deep into the journey of new lead exec Mike Gansey, who went from taking notes during middle-of-the-night college games to pulling off the Sixers’ transformational offseason.
“It’s really easy to like Mike Gansey”

Most unhinged part of Willard’s rant is he thinks people click on stories about Villanova
Kevin Willard unplugged on Villanova exiting the Big 5 series 😳
"Unfortunately, it really wasn't a Villanova decision. Either you wrote a really poor article, or people can't read your article. But we wanted it. We thought we had a deal. I think you need to talk to the Temple AD and get your stories right. Because this was not a Villanova thing... Either people are illiterate, which I don't think they are, or you're just a bad writer."
"We wanted to be in it, we did everything to do it. Talk to Temple. Talk to those guys. It wasn't Villanova."

Grind is a tough thing to quantify. But it is a big thing, one that can force multiply a player who is “only” very good into one who is actually pretty great. Maybe Jaylen Brown is the Big Analytic. Maybe the numbers' performance should be measured by him

Britain Covey: "I think it's very telling that Jalen and his team are collaborating with the Eagles organization on all their posts. I think that speaks volumes on how they think the situation was handled. ...But I love our medical staff. Everyone does here. We have a lot of faith in them."
Britain Covey is the Eagles' new NFLPA rep. (An interesting year for the new role...) Here's Covey on the NFLPA asking for an investigation re: Jalen Hurts: "At the end of the day, that's the NFLPA's job. I don't think anyone shoudl be surprised by it. But I don't think it means — the word 'investigation' carries a lot of weight. I'm excited to have a call with them this week and talk about it. But I think regardless of the circumstance, I think they were going to do an investigation. It's kind of like what Roger Goodell said, actually: Everyone will welcome it — including the Eagles. I don't know anything. It's not like the NFLPA has a stance yet. But I'm not surprised by it. I don't think anyone is."

Mike Boryla has never watched Jalen Hurts play.
The former Eagles QB can't watch football because of his PTSD.
But he's followed Hurts' career and admires him.
And while Boryla suffered from concussions - not blood clots - he has a message for the QB: inquirer.com/eagles/mike-bor…
In Todd Monken's four years with the Ravens, his running backs averaged 5.1 yards per carry. This year with the Browns, Monken's RBs are averaging 3.4 yards per carry. We can talk about Mannion and Eagles scheme all we want, but its usually the Jimmys and Joes
I think every team should have a player do this. In fact, I think every player should do this. Heck buy a couple of ads: big, expensive ones.
New story: Luka Doncic took out a full-page ad in the LA Times on Wednesday, declaring his championship goal and calling this season’s Lakers a “special team” espn.com/nba/story/_/id/5023…

I covered the Chris Maragos trial with @oonagoodinsmith. Most days we were the only reporters in the room, and we broke the news about the verdict.
The most common mistake people make about this trial is bringing in the Eagles, who weren’t defendants in the case. 1/2
Let’s talk about the Chris Maragos case… aka the one where a Philly jury hit Eagles doctors with a $43.5 million verdict for negligently ending a Super Bowl captain’s career.
Maragos tore his PCL (with meniscus issues) in a 2017 game vs. the Panthers. Dr. James Bradley (longtime Steelers doc) did the surgery; Rothman Orthopaedics (Eagles team docs) handled rehab.
Plaintiffs argued the meniscus wasn’t properly addressed and rehab was advanced too aggressively (including running) despite a 2018 MRI showing persistent problems. That caused further damage and forced retirement in 2019.
Defense said the meniscus was stable and more surgery would have done more harm than good.
After a two-week trial (Nick Foles, Trey Burton, and Jordan Hicks testified), the jury found negligence in under three hours.
Liability: Bradley 67% ($29.2M), Rothman 33% ($14.3M). An economist put lost earnings at ~$8.7M as the floor; the rest reflected pain, limitations, and future care.
The verdict was upheld on appeal in 2024.
Maragos’ lawyer put it bluntly: it forces team doctors to stop focusing only on “when can he return to play” and start thinking about the next 50 years of a player’s life.
The best is the glare and then the hard boxout at the end. That's how you do it
LeBron goes OFF on a Knicks fan:
“Ain’t nothing soft in the Midwest…I’m not from the West Coast, I’m from Ohio, baby. I’m an Ohio baby, fu*k is you talking about?”

It’s a hard thing, living up to the hype. It is a hard thing, living up to the hype. Yet, here were the Sixers, amid a cloud of hype unlike anything their franchise has ever seen, winning a game the way the best teams must win them. They will be fun
