Thousands of educated Nigerians, rich and poor passed that road and saw this, not one of them intervened.
Some may have muttered to themselves: "This is wrong"
Others might have found the scenario of selling a live turtle in traffic funny.
And the rest may not have cared.
But ultimately none interfered
Only one foreigner took the initiative and confronted the seller, even offering to pay to have the turtle released.
Now hundreds of Nigerians are speaking in support "on the internet" but you know as well as I that if it weren't for that brave foreigner, that turtle would've been eaten.
If Nigeria's wildlife conservation is put in the hands of passionate foreigners tomorrow, the same Nigerians who were too lily-livered to confront a common street boy would find their voices and echo their usual cries of racism and neo-colonialism.
Foreign Man Pays Men Attempting to Sell Sea Turtle Along Road Near Eko Hotel, Lagos, and Returns It to the Sea
"Today, I witnessed something that genuinely broke my heart but also restored a little of my faith in humanity.
While leaving Eko Hotel, Lagos State, I saw some men trying to sell a sea turtle in the middle of the road as though it were an ordinary item of trade.
A foreign man stopped and tried everything possible to stop them. He shouted, pleaded and appealed to the people around him, including the uniformed police officers present, to understand that what they were doing was wrong.
Sadly, it seemed his voice was the only one speaking up for a creature that couldn't speak for itself.
However, he refused to give up. He eventually paid the men for the turtle, not to own it but to give it another chance at life.
With the assistance of a police van, the turtle was taken back to the sea and released into its natural habitat."
— A lady shares what she witnessed near Eko Hotel in Lagos State.
I know she hit the guy first and he had a right to defend himself but I can't bring myself to endorse using this level of force against women, even when they're wrong.
I think it's the toxic masculinity in me but I view women as slightly above children in these matters..
They're incredibly soft and very fragile.
Just shove her or something.
I really like stories like this.
Is there a thread full of stories like this I can read?
Sometimes ago around 05/06, in my area then in Ilorin, we usually have water scarcity problem. Once rain stops falling, the wells starts drying up almost immediately.
But there was this particular well that was on the land of an uncompleted building not far from our house.
This well would always mysteriously have water when almost every other well in the area have dried up, so everyone in the area knows about the well.
Because it was so popular, the only time you can get clean water from it is if you go very early in the morning, so it’s kind of like “the earlier the better.”…….

“Work smarter, not harder” as a saying has never had a more literal showcase.
No one has to live like this.
No one should live like this!
This was a little girl with dreams at some point.
The government spends billions on invasions and white elephant projects but care for the most vulnerable is almost nonexistent.
Watching this video just made me so sad.
This person needs help, not further condemnation.
People kicking her in the comments, what joy do you derive from it?
You don't think she knows she's in a bad situation?
You don't think she blames herself for it?
Let's just try to be more human.
Andrea sells herself on a street corner in Arizona to pay for fentanyl pills. Clients have beaten her, raped her and dumped her on the side of the road with nothing. When she calls the police, she says they want to take her to jail instead. And once she was locked in a room for three days, its walls covered in goodbye notes from the girls who were there before her.
In the video below, the 40-year-old tells how her life ended up here, without raising her voice once.
She grew up being passed from person to person. Her dad took her from her mom at four. At nine, he sent her to live with her grandmother in Texas. At 15, her grandmother had a brain aneurysm and never came home. Andrea left with the first man who would take care of her.
As an adult, she built a real life. She managed hotel properties for most of her career. She had two sons. All she wanted was to give them the stability she never had.
Then she left her husband. She says that in retaliation he destroyed her life and got her kids taken away. She lost the house, then the job.
“I just stuck my head in the sand and disappeared. And nobody came after me.”
She hasn’t spoken to anyone from her old life in four years. Her oldest son is 22 and has a disability. Her youngest is 15. She has no idea what they’ve been told about her.
The drugs started with a doctor. In Texas she was prescribed Vicodin for her back. In Arizona, a new doctor cut her off immediately and pushed surgery. She went to the street for pills and found heroin everywhere. Now she smokes “blues,” counterfeit pills made with fentanyl. She says it’s the only thing that makes her not such a “sad sack.”
She makes two to three hundred dollars a day on 27th Avenue. Just enough for a room and the next day.
Then the host asks about her worst nights. Men who seem kind until the car door locks. Men who beat her. Men who rape her and leave her on the shoulder of the road. Men who drive her far out into nowhere and abandon her.
And then the room.
Three days. A bucket. Tap water. Assaulted again and again. Every wall, the ceiling, even the closet covered in notes: goodbyes to parents, apologies, “I was here.” Then they brought in another girl.
Andrea only got out because of a mix-up. The man who brought her had passed out, and the others assumed she was meant for that room. When he woke up, he told them to let her go. She begged the other girl to come with her. The girl didn’t seem to understand what was happening. She stayed. Andrea never saw her again.
She never reported it. She says every time she calls the police, they want to search her purse and take her to jail.
Somewhere there’s a room full of notes from girls nobody came looking for. Andrea is just the one who walked out.
Some lessons are written in other people’s mistakes. Watch it once. Remember it forever.
Maybe I should post excerpts of my journal here cause we seem to live the same life.

You can’t believe who got a yellow card here.
Even Drogba couldn’t believe it.
The referee must be on some cow shit.
Replace India with Nigeria and you'll find a like for like similarity.
We beg our politicians and leaders to do what they swore to do.
If a Nigerian politician, by reason of some imagined slight, says he's not going to do Project A(which has been budgeted for and approved by the State Assembly), the default response is not one of anger or righteous indignation, it is one of pleading and begging.
We beg these leaders to fulfill their responsibilities and we thank them for doing what they swore to do.
He should never play football again.
I don't think he should go to jail but he should never be allowed to play on a football pitch again.
