Dan Basse with @AgResource brings us a global market update to kick off this year's Feeding Quality Forum.
The fed cattle market remains strong, with northern feedlots receiving $188/cwt. last week, a $2/cwt. increase. Texas and Kansas feedlots also saw a $2/cwt. boost, reaching an average of $180/cwt.
As we entered July, the beef industry experienced lower demand due to summer travel and lighter meals. Cutout values are expected to stabilize soon. Carcass weights found their bottom in Q2, with the Prime grade showing improvement.
As fed cattle carcass weights increase into October, quality grades may decline, but Labor Day demand should lead to favorable price spreads.
