Most MAGA Reps say that when they see Trump campaigning for political candidates, it makes them more likely to vote for Republicans.
But those events are not having that level of impact with non-MAGA Reps.

Here's how prevalent opposition to either party is as a motivating force this year.
Neither party is perceived by a majority of voters overall as having a clear plan should they win control of Congress.

For most who are backing Democrats, their motivation is more about stoppingTrump and GOP policies than advancing the Democrats’ own policies.

The Trump factor
Pres. Trump looms large over the midterms. More than 7 in 10 voting for Dems say their vote for Congress is to oppose him.
Trump is also a factor for those backing Reps. Most say their vote is to support him, but to a lesser extent than Dems are voting to oppose him.

Most voters think there will be more corruption in government if Republicans maintain control of Congress.
Both Dems & Reps - at about similar, large majorities- see government corruption as a factor in their votes.

So what happens if each party wins?
Few voters think gas prices will go down no matter who wins.
But the GOP is relatively more associated in voters' minds w/ rising gas prices: more think they'll go up if Reps win than if Dems do.
Most voters don’t think they'll be better off financially no matter who wins. But relatively more think they'll do better w/ Dems.

Some of this lead is because more Democrats say they'll either definitely vote, or already have voted early.
But this is not over: the voters who describe themselves as only "probably" or “maybe” going to vote are more Republican. If they become motivated, this can all change.

Against a backdrop of continued concern about inflation & the economy, Dems maintain a lead in a bid for a House majority.
Currently on pace for 229 seats in our CBS News House model estimate, which translates voters' congressional preferences into seats.
Potential range of outcomes could reach into the 230s, but Reps do still have a very narrow path to hold.

New CBS News polling shows a tight 51%-49% Senate race in Texas between Democrat James Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton, with Talarico performing better among independents and voters who say they're struggling financially because of higher prices.
@SalvantoCBS says Texas is part of an expanded Senate battleground map for Democrats, with traditionally Republican-leaning states like Ohio and Alaska now rated toss-ups, while Iowa and Kansas are also competitive.

WHAT ABOUT LATINOS IN TEXAS? They swung toward Trump in 2024, but most are now backing Democrat Talarico. Latinos are more likely than voters overall to say higher prices have been a hardship or difficult, and most of them do not think Paxton has the right personal character to serve as a senator.

WHY IS PAXTON FARING WELL? The Trump administration's deportation program gets more support in Texas, compared to the most recent national @cbsnewspoll, and that advantages Paxton.
Beyond economic consideration Republicans say they feel Talarico represents policies that are a threat to their culture and way of life.
(Democrats, for their part, feel the same about Paxton.)
Also: In a state where few voters describe themselves as liberal, Talarico is viewed as "very liberal" by nearly half. When they describe Talarico this way, they're voting for Paxton.

WHY IS TALARICO FARING WELL? The cost of living is the top issue for Texas voters, and most say they've been negatively affected by higher prices. Among these voters, Talarico enjoys a sizable lead over Paxton.
And more see Talarico as having the right character to serve as senator.
Personal qualities matter more to Talarico voters than Paxton’s.

WHY TALARICO OR PAXTON?
Talarico's standing is helped by more Democrats saying they'll definitely vote. That leaves the dynamic in the closing weeks very much up for grabs. If more Republicans decide to vote, it could certainly change.
The bulk of Paxton's voters are backing him either because he's the GOP nominee or to oppose Talarico, and because they want to support President Trump.

🚨 NEW @cbsnewspoll: A Texas toss-up with @jamestalarico @KenPaxtonTX in a tight Senate race.
Paxton benefits from the state's overall Republican leanings, while Talarico is boosted by voters' economic concerns and higher perceptions of personal character to serve as senator.
