“Action in the face of inaction.” Canada needs to do more to fight rising HIV infections. We can start with increased funding and removing legislation and barriers that prevent comprehensive sexual health education in schools. Health is a human right. #cdnpoli

On October 24, 2024, I launched a Senate inquiry into the alarming rise of sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs), including HIV/AIDS. The rates of these infections continue to climb across the country, endangering the lives and health of many Canadians. In my remarks, I highlighted critical issues in prevention, testing, and treatment, as well as the lack of equity in access to medications, particularly for rural and remote communities. It is imperative to rethink our approaches, particularly through accessible and age-appropriate sexual education programs in all schools across the country. In the face of these public health challenges, let us commit to a future without STBBIs and HIV/AIDS.

What does people-partnered care mean to you? At #AIDS2024 we hosted a symposium to discuss the importance of creating meaningful collaborations with people living with HIV across the entire HIV care continuum, whether it be the development of medicines or community advocacy.

With a simple prick of a finger, Canadians have been able to know their HIV status quickly from the comfort of their homes. But as HIV rates rise across the country, funding for HIV self-testing kits is drying up. @EdwardDjan1 has more. winnipeg.citynews.ca/video/2…
