Insurance shouldn't cost more just because your business is in NL. At 15%, small businesses here pay Canada's highest retail sales tax on insurance premiums. NB, PEI, NS, AB and BC charge none. We're calling on the provincial government to eliminate it!

If true, these budget rumours would be a big deal for small business. CFIB has been pushing hard for a reduction in the small business corporate rate from 9 to 6%. In addition, for more than a decade, we've been calling for a lower rate of EI premiums for smaller payrolls. We've suggested smaller firms have their EI rate tied 1:1 with the employee rate, rather than the current 1.4 multiplier. Fingers crossed for Nov 5. nationalpost.com/news/canada…

This Federal budget, CFIB is asking the government to reduce the all-time-high costs of doing business in Canada as a small firm with these four recommendations. Strengthening these businesses, including CFIB members, will secure Canada’s economy in the face of uncertainty. #CFIBSince1971 #SmallBusiness #SmallBusinessSupport #CanadianSmallBusiness

Thanks to Industry @ISED_CA Minister @melaniejoly for joining CFIB’s Board of Governors at our fall meeting in Montreal. It was good to catch up on the impact of the trade war on small business in advance of the fall budget.

When public construction runs long, small businesses pay the price. In Conception Bay South, the Seal Cove Road Bridge closed May 4 for what the Town said would be about four months. Five months later, there’s no reopening date. The owners of Seal Cove Grocery store say sales are down 30% heading into the holiday season. 68% of small businesses say they should be compensated when a public construction project has a major impact on their operations. CFIB is urging provincial and municipal governments in Newfoundland and Labrador to adopt construction mitigation policies that include: • Funding to offset costs for affected businesses • Better planning and communication with business owners • Clear responsibilities for each order of government Municipalities need a plan before the next project, not after.

It’s finally time for the Federal government to lower the small business tax rate (SBTR). Here’s Corinne Pohlmann, Executive Vice-President, Advocacy, on how a cut to the SBTR will help Canadian small businesses survive recent instability.   Learn more about CFIB’s recommendations and add your voice by signing our petition: hubs.li/Q04zlqY80   #CFIBSince1971 #SmallBusiness #SmallBusinessSupport #CanadianSmallBusiness

A very productive meeting today with Mount Pearl Mayor Dave Aker. We talked construction mitigation, red tape, taxation, and how the City can keep supporting local businesses.
