From the stages of the Royal Shakespeare Company to the bridge of the USS Enterprise and the halls of Xavier’s School, he brought unmatched dignity, intelligence, compassion, and that unforgettable voice to every role. As Captain Jean-Luc Picard, he defined a generation’s idea of leadership and hope. As Professor Charles Xavier, he gave us a moral center amid the chaos of mutants and heroes. Knighted for his contributions to drama, he remained a Yorkshireman at heart—principled, generous, and endlessly curious. “Like me, Jean-Luc has lived an unusual life that has taken him far beyond the bounds of normal human experience.
