My 8th Annual Cornbread Reading Conference was a huge success!!! Here are a few pictures from yesterday. In addition to having fun and dancing with Cornbread, students enjoyed a highly interactive, engaging presentation learning about CONTEXT CLUES, ALLITERATIONS, IDIOMS, CENTRAL IDEAS, SUPPOTING DETAILS, and also the importance of eating healthy and exercising. Thanks to the partnership with @CISJAX for bringing approximately 400 student out and also to @ChartwellsDuval for providing the lunch!! The Schultz Center is always my first choice for a top of the line venue!! @DuvalSchools @KidsHopeJAX @OfficialVyStar

Honored to be a special guest, along with my superintendent and schoolboard member Warren Jones at Rufus Payne Elem. Dr. Kriznar shared the excitement students had last week when receiving their Cornbread books, so we decided to do a surprise author visit. @DuvalSchools @CISJAX – at Florida, USA

What a fun time celebrating Literacy Week at Rufus Payne Elementary today. I enjoyed reading to some 3rd grade River City Readers and answering their great questions about why literacy is so important.
After surpassing our goal of 300,000 reading minutes already, we announced a new goal of 1 million minutes of reading citywide by the end of the year! If you want to get your school-aged child involved, go to jacksonville.gov/rivercityre… for complete information, including links to download the free @zoobeanreads app.
Remember, just 20 minutes of reading a day paves the way.
