Canada’s Bill C-22 would require companies to keep metadata on every user for six months. Canadians are calling it surveillance.
America is building something similar and calling it child safety.
The App Store Accountability Act:
• Verifies the age of every account holder, adults included
• Links parent and child accounts
• Logs parental consent for app downloads
• No deletion requirement for app stores in the federal bill

Starting 2027, platforms must age-gate algorithmic feeds and overnight notifications. Same vendors already selling the identical systems in red states.

The KIDS Act passed the House Monday night 267-117 with 47 not voting.
Under suspension of the rules, it needed 2/3 to pass. Just 12 more NO votes would have defeated it.
Who voted no?
32 Republicans, largely Freedom Caucus members who read what the bill actually does.
85 Democrats...progressive civil liberties members with First Amendment concerns.
Rep. Warren Davidson said it best:
"'It's for the kids' may be sincere, but it's also for the surveillance state and effectively establishes a mandate for digital ID...Wolves disguised as sheep."
We oppose the KIDS Act because of its Digital ID framework, data collection, and surveillance mechanisms that do not protect kids or empower parents.

One section catches my attention. Google specifically tells parents and guardians to review the updated terms with their children and help them decide whether changes need to be made to their accounts. It also reminds parents that they’re responsible for their child’s activity on Google’s services.
If you don’t agree with the new terms, Google says you should remove your content and stop using its services, including the option to close your Google account.
If your children use Gmail, YouTube, Google Docs, Classroom, or other Google services, it may be worth taking a few minutes to read the updates together before they take effect.

Google’s updated age language deserves a much closer look… especially for parents.
Buried in the terms is a very clear shift: if your child uses Google services, those terms apply to you, and Google says you are responsible for your child’s activity.
It also points parents toward Family Link for younger children, while noting some services carry separate age requirements including YouTube age-restricted content and 18+ requirements for Ads, AdSense and Analytics.
And here’s the part parents should not miss: Google says if it determines an account may not meet the age requirement, the user has 14 days to update the account or it may be disabled.
This is not just a “click agree” update. This is parent/child digital responsibility language. Read it carefully.
