Your Golden State Valkyries are WNBA Champions! In just their second season EVER, the @valkyries have taken the sports world by storm. They’ve made history and given San Francisco another team to love. Every player showed up for their teammates, their fans, and the Bay Area. And our fans sold out Ballhalla every single night, backing the Valks every step of the way. Congratulations to the players, the coaches, the staff, and the entire Valkyries organization on this historic victory—we’re so excited to celebrate this incredible team. Let’s go, Valks!

.@DanielLurie delivers a massive dose of common sense on @CNN: “We got so entrapped in our progressive values...we weren’t taking stock of what was happening on our streets. “We had 810 people die of overdose in SF 3 years ago. There’s nothing progressive about that.”

Every San Franciscan living in supportive housing deserves a home and community that is actually supportive. So when we hear serious concerns about residents’ safety and care, we have a responsibility to act quickly—for the residents, the neighbors, and the taxpayers. Following HomeRise’s decision, our administration will go through a process to identify capable providers who can deliver on the promise of supportive housing for these San Franciscans. We will work across departments and with HomeRise and their financing partners to ensure every client has safe, affordable housing with minimal disruption. And we will always protect residents’ rights so every person who has moved off the street can continue on their journey to stability. San Francisco works with nonprofit partners to deliver all kinds of critical services, and many of them do extraordinary and difficult work. We have a responsibility to support the organizations delivering strong results, while holding every provider to high standards. We owe that accountability to the people receiving services and to every San Franciscan whose dollars fund them. sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti…

Arts and culture are driving San Francisco's recovery, and the work of the artists and staff at our cultural institutions make that possible. And as the cost of living rises, we are working to build a city where those artists, workers, and families can put down roots. I am grateful to the musicians of Local 6 for their constant commitment to reaching an agreement, and I want to thank Matthew Shilvock and the San Francisco Opera leadership for their hard work throughout the process. We would not have an agreement without the dedication of Matthew Goudeau, our executive director of arts and culture, who spent night after night in City Hall and the War Memorial, working to get the opera started again. San Francisco invests in the War Memorial and Performing Arts Center so it can be filled with the arts and culture that are driving our recovery. Performances at the Opera House support artists and staff, draw residents and visitors to small businesses in Hayes Valley, and bring people together to enjoy amazing music. That should have been on full display through the last week and at the free performance in Golden Gate Park last weekend, which was cancelled. Finally, we are getting those performances started again. sfchronicle.com/entertainmen…

San Francisco’s permitting system was broken. Since I took office, we’ve been working to fix it.   Since launching PermitSF last February, we’ve eliminated unnecessary permits, created an online permitting portal, and made it easier to get projects moving without waiting in line at the Permit Center.    Thanks to our partnership with the Board of Supervisors, we have come together on a contract extension that supports our online PermitSF Portal, which will help us build on this progress and deliver even better results for San Franciscans.    Government should make it easier to build, open a business, and get things done. That’s what we’re working to deliver for San Francisco.

We’re expanding capacity in San Francisco Recreation and Parks’ after-school programs by more than 20% across 19 sites—giving more kids a safe and welcoming place to go when the school day ends. At recreation centers and clubhouses near their schools, students can get homework help and take part in sports, STEM, and the arts. This expansion builds on our broader investments in after-school care, including more than $30 million from the Department of Children, Youth and Their Families for over 60 out-of-school-time programs serving more than 17,000 students. We want San Francisco to be a city where kids and families can thrive. Through our Family Opportunity Agenda, we are expanding after-school care, making childcare more affordable, and driving new housing so families can put down roots in San Francisco.  When we make parents’ lives easier, we help our kids learn and grow, and we build a stronger future for our city. – at San Francisco, CA

These serious allegations involving a member of a city oversight board are outrageous, and they demand a full investigation. If we want San Franciscans to trust government to work for them, we need to deliver accountability when that’s not happening. Someone who has engaged in this behavior for months, if not years, should never be allowed to hold a position of power. I’ve asked my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors to take action to remove this individual and support their call for a faster investigation. My office has provided the information we have to the Inspector General to assist with her investigation. We remain ready to support this process in any way we can.

We are holding more than 500 city-funded service providers accountable for keeping their surrounding areas clean and safe. Every San Franciscan deserves a safe and clean neighborhood, and every person struggling on our streets deserves a real path to treatment and stability. Today, we’re announcing our stronger Good Neighbor Policy that will help us deliver both.   City-funded sites must perform regular perimeter checks, pick up trash, and address disruptive behavior outside their buildings.   When a neighborhood steps up to welcome a new facility, they shouldn't be punished with challenging street conditions and a lack of support. This policy had previously been inconsistent across city departments and difficult to enforce. Now, we are setting clear and consistent standards, offering training for our providers, and holding everyone accountable.

Muni hit a record 1.3 million passenger trips over Outside Lands weekend. Our city teams were out all weekend keeping San Franciscans safe and moving—and it showed. Thanks to our preparations, more than 225,000 attendees had a great weekend of music and food with no major disruptions. Strong, reliable public transportation is an essential part of our city's recovery, and we will keep this momentum going. Let's go, San Francisco!

After an incredible Outside Lands weekend, I want to thank everyone who made it a success—SFMTA traffic control and Muni operators, SFPD officers who walked the grounds, Rec and Park tree crews, emergency management staff, Public Works street cleaners, and all the city workers who pitched in. Over three days, Outside Lands ran at full capacity with 75,000 attendees each day. There were no major disruptions throughout the weekend, thanks to the hard work and preparation from city staff, event organizers Another Planet, and volunteers. People came together, enjoyed incredible music, and showed the very best of our city. Let’s go, San Francisco!

Vogue World is coming to San Francisco in 2027. Creativity and free expression have been the engine of San Francisco for generations, and that spirit will be on full display at this celebration of fashion and culture. Thanks to our ecosystem of talented designers, musicians, and small businesses—and the artists and workers behind them—visitors are coming to our city, and our economy is recovering. Vogue World will support San Francisco’s creative minds and strengthen the entire ecosystem. When we host major global events, we draw visitors, support local businesses, and generate revenue that funds the services San Franciscans rely on. We’ve done that through the Super Bowl and the World Cup, and Vogue World will be another opportunity to show the world that San Francisco is on the rise. – at San Francisco, CA

Jollibee is finally opening on Market Street—but it shouldn’t take six years to open a restaurant. With PermitSF, we are making sure it doesn’t. Changes for restaurants have already come into effect since I took office, including: ✔️ Assigning restaurants a single public health inspector from start to finish. ✔️ Eliminating permits for sidewalk tables and chairs. ✔️ Flagging complex restaurant projects early so city staff can help before they get stuck. ✔️ Allowing minor storefront changes to be approved by staff in weeks instead of requiring a lengthy hearing process. ✔️ Moving permits—including fire-sprinkler permits—online through a single city portal. As a result, 86% of permits are now issued within 30 days in San Francisco. There is no doubt that there is still work to do, but we are committed to making experiences like Jollibee’s a thing of the past. In San Francisco, our city government is committed to working as partners to our restaurants and small businesses. sfchronicle.com/food/restaur…

When I took office, we set out to completely transform the city’s work around homelessness, drugs, and behavioral health—bringing urgency and accountability to every part of the system. San Franciscans should have confidence that public dollars are producing real results. So when a provider isn’t keeping residents safe or providing effective services, we need to make a change. Due to HomeRise's continued failures, the city is taking steps to transition four programs to new providers who can deliver. When an organization gets taxpayer dollars to deliver services for San Franciscans, our administration is going to hold them accountable. Thank you to Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing Executive Director Mike Levine and his team for leading this work with compassion and accountability for every resident in San Francisco. sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti…
