Of course we had to turn our Family Tree into books! Our pals deconstructed our tree and placed their family members (including Owl 😁🦉) into personalized books they can read at home. We are thankful for family! @pjspals

We incorporate PBL, African American achievements, and student agency! @RCSDMLKJr
We welcomed a parent into our classroom to read aloud a chapter in Bud, Not Buddy. The students loved it! #WorldReadAloudDay @RCSDMLKJr @RCSDNYS
We love using QFTs (Question Formulation Technique) to generate close & open-ended questions for a deeper dive into grade-level content! @RCSDMLKJr
As an extension of #WorldReadAloudDay students used what they read about engineer Leland Melvin & created their own rockets (markers) that they had to strategically land on the International Space Station (cup). We learned docking spacecraft requires critical thinking @RCSDMLKJr
For #WorldReadAloudDay, we buddy-read about African American explorer, Matthew Henson, and completed a story map. Then, we read about & took a virtual field trip with NASA’s Leland Melvin. This prepared us for our next activity -Docking with the ISS! @RCSDMLKJr
Check out the STEM Creations our second grade students are working on as part of our 21st Century programming!… Who knew a bag of sticks could be turned into fun masterpieces! #SoCreative @RCSDMLKJr padlet.com/2016742/vxajx7seh…
After discussing the new national holiday, Juneteenth, and why we have tomorrow off, the students had to create their own national holiday and persuade the class as to why we should honor it. I told them I’ll send their proposals to @JoeBiden. @RCSDMLKJr
Such a cool and empowering idea @teachingonadime’s class presented today! I really believe your students are future business leaders! They made my students (and I) think critically to determine where to invest! Love it! #SharkTank @RCSDMLKJr
What a wonderful day at the 323 STEAM Zoo! My students worked so hard to put this together from the coding, to the robotics, to the rehearsals! We hope everyone enjoyed the adventure! 🦍🐢🪱🦁MLKPride @RCSDMLKJr @scratch @LEGO_Education

One of my students has taken on the teacher role very well to help her peers create coding projects for our STEAM Zoo! Everyday during this block she adds “Ms.” in front of her name on Zoom, and prefers we address her by that only 😂#StudentAgency @RCSDMLKJr @scratch
To kick off our Declaration of Independence unit, kids were given async work today to gain background knowledge on the topic and had to make some hard decisions: Independence or Chicken Nuggets FOREVER 😮 ..Turns out my kids love their families AND chicken nuggets! ☺️ @RCSDMLKJr
This brings me pure joy. The eve before break and a student would not stop working on her biography. #Persistence @RCSDMLKJr
Practicing "The Big 7" today on Peardeck as we continue our unit on division! The students love to get "remainder alerts". @PearDeck @RCSDMLKJr
It’s so great having students and parents who try their best everyday! In my class, students receive digital “blocks” for great work & behavior. They can then redeem those blocks for a prize of their choice. Fabian was the first in the class to reach his goal! @RCSDcommschools

Students did a great job relating the Water Cycle to real life and our knowledge of ecosystems! @PearDeck @RCSDMLKJr
