We like to kid ourselves otherwise, but ultimately, your fitness is limited by your availability...
by the space you have in your life to train and recover.
I’ve flown business, first and even private,
But let me tell you this.
THIS gives me far greater satisfaction #subtlebrag

6 days before his Ironman win, Gustav Iden's workout:
-100k bike
-25mi run at 6 min/mi 🤯
That seems unique, but look around, and pros are doing long runs near peak races. Is it time to question taper wisdom in some cases? Time for some uncertain fun 💪 trailrunnermag.com/training/…

To perform well in one area, you have to underperform in other areas.
We can't be great at all things at all times.
The key is being intentional and choosing wisely. Periodize your life, and be clear on what matters. Know what you're maximizing and what you're satisficing.

IMHO, too many folks these days failing to heed @jfriel 's guidelines:
- Novices jumping into #Ironman before spending a few years building & racing shorter races
- Experienced becoming complacent about the volume required for a positive experience.

Having a blast with the pictures taken to cyclists for the Olympics. Here you can see Mike Woods being the living representation of jet-lag.

Got sad news today. After 7 years of medical training, my good friend has been struck off after 1 minor indiscretion. He slept with 1 of his patients & now can no longer work in the job he loves. What a waste of time, training & money. A genuinely nice guy, and a brilliant vet..
This right here is a smart man, on all counts ;-)
Ego is the enemy.

Coach these workouts are boring. Ok here try this - Run 40 x 400 everyday for three weeks! That is what Emile Zatopek did. I don't recommend it, but we need to get back to training robust adaptable athletes rather than entertaining them. Sometimes training is boring.
