Respectfully, there is blame to go around, but the left starts by capturing institutions. Capture the media, bureaucracy, unions, academia, and the courts and you stand a great chance of controlling a nation, even against its will.
"We the people" have surrendered control of our institutions. The US is clawing some of it back, but in many states or other Western nations the left is exerting their will regardless of the "voters".

WA voting system is so rigged man. Why is this ok to put opinions to mislead voters on the ballot itself? The tax is not in place yet, so there's no "decrease" in funding if this passes.

The post below links to an absolutely amazing article, and I think it's a must-read for anyone who cares about America's future.
Most laypeople have zero idea just how harmful the American Bar Association is to American society.
Here is the causal chain:
1. Lawyers have an outsized and inappropriate level of influence on almost all aspects of American society.
2. Lawyers are trained in law school to believe they SHOULD have an outsized and inappropriate level of influence on almost all aspects of American society.
3. Further, law schools teach those law students that such influence must bend wildly to the Left, and anything that does not conform to Leftist beliefs must be squashed via the law.
4. The ABA decides what law schools get accredited.
5. Only those law schools that conform to #2 and #3 above get accredited by the ABA.
An astonishing amount of our societal ills are a direct function of the above. Destroying the influence the ABA has over American society is one of the most direct and substantial ways that we can cure what ails us.
This is not really a federal issue, it's a state issue. Each state must decide whether the ABA gets to accredit the law schools in that state.
Some states already are taking action. This is a key issue that can be handled at the state level by your state legislature and governor. If you ever feel like state level lawmakers don't really have power, this issue is one where that feeling is untrue.
I encourage all conservatives to call their state legislators and encourage them to cease relying on the ABA for law school accreditation.
To say this excites me doesn't quite capture the moment.
Soon, another great law school will be added to the remnant of centers training patriots to fight for truth in the courts, @uaustinorg

There is a profound cowardice disguised as politeness that allows the truly wicked to operate, a widespread belief that silence is neutral, when in reality, silence is the loudest possible form of endorsement, effectively handing the megaphone to the cruel and microphone to the unjust. Neutrality in the face of moral crisis is not a position of strength; it is the precise mechanism by which tyranny wins.

If you have google on your phone, and many apps use it or other similar services, they pretty much know most things about you. They might not know that you spent 57 dollars at some place, but they know you went there.
I am just stating a fact. The government knows far less about you that the tech companies for whom you grant or acquiesce permission to track you.
The counter-argument to your valid point is that the convenience of not carrying cash and simply using your phone for everyday purchases is pretty appealing for some people.
Individual freedom, where you can find it, is definitely your right as a free person and everyone should make their own choice, but as a retired law enforcement officer I can tell you the shocking truth. I could learn far more about you, your habits, where you had been, and even what you spent by sending court orders or warrants to the services you downloaded or subscribe.
They know FAR more about you than the government. If you have a newer car with an infotainment and navigation system it tracks everywhere that car went, how fast, etc, as long as that system remains active and many new cars include a free time period which stays stored in the car until you don't subscribe.
Again, not a counter-argument, but people should consider just how much effort it takes to truly remain "off grid" before you switch to all cash with your phone and car tracking your every move. Now you know.

What would America look like if 55 million Visas were cancelled?
If 55 million visas were cancelled overnight, America would change in ways few could imagine.
At first it would look chaotic. Hospitals short on nurses. Tech firms unable to staff support teams. Crops left to rot because migrant labor vanished. For a few months, the headlines would scream collapse. But then something else would happen.
Wages would climb. Trades and apprenticeships would surge. Colleges that depended on foreign tuition would close, but community colleges would thrive again as Americans re-trained. Housing prices in major cities would fall for the first time in decades. Renters would finally have leverage. Families that were priced out could buy homes again.
The GDP might dip at first, but the money would start circulating locally. People who thought they’d never matter in the economy would suddenly be needed again. The country would remember how to build, grow, fix, and teach without importing labor. It wouldn’t be easy, but it would be ours.

I do think there is improvement Eric, but it's not back to pre-conflict levels and there is still a lot of disruption in the market(s). However, the long-term outlook if the IRGC fails or is neutered is far better than what we had before the conflict.
The spike in fuel prices is mostly due to the disruption as well as the continued refinery problem here in the US. Allowing the states to demand their own boutique blends of fuel further exacerbates our refinery problem (I think its intentional) with minimal benefit. This has also been factored into our gas prices for decades.
It is also certain that politics are involved because high gas prices harms the party in power and this is especially true when it is "orange man bad", but republicans have used it in the past too.
It sucks and certainly has an impact on my family, but I support the long-term goal of removing the threat of the IRGC in the oil market, avoiding a nuclear Iran, and paying them back for every drop of blood we owe them.
The Russia/Ukraine conflict is also having an impact, especially given the attacks on oil infrastructure and refineries there.
Iran has caused pain at the pump for everyone for decades because the lack of stability has been factored into the price of oil. The spin is the spin but hopefully enough people understand the long-game and lasting benefits of removing the IRGC.
We really need to fix our refinery bottlenecks, drop the ethanol madness, and stop states from demanding boutique blends which is a much bigger problem than people think. Do that, end the conflict successfully in Iran, stop the Russian/Ukraine conflict, and build some new refineries and we will see long-term price drops in the fuel market and much less volatility.

In fifty years of cooking supper for the family, I don't believe Mamaw has ever once eaten a hot meal sitting down. She sets a place for herself every single night, and that plate stays as clean as the day it was bought.
She's at the stove eating a corner of cornbread off a saucer. She's up getting the butter. She's back up for the pepper sauce nobody asked for. "Y'all go ahead, I'm coming." She is not coming. If you tell her to sit down, she says she's been tasting all evening and she's not hungry, and then she finishes whatever's left on the grandbabies' plates while she clears the table.
It took me being grown to see what she was doing. Standing up, she could watch every plate, spot whose tea was low, and make sure the last piece of chicken went to somebody besides herself. That wasn't a woman who forgot to eat. That was a woman who fed everybody else first on purpose.

The Marines didn’t promote Thomas Sowell. They also somehow failed to demote him.
He tells the story with a smile, but the point lands hard: some people are simply not built for hierarchy, deference, or institutional climbing.
The same traits that kept him a private later made him one of the most independent minds of the last century. Institutions reward compliance. Reality rewards the ones who refuse it.

This article was published on 9/15. Although it doesn't go into specific details it adds another perspective. The interesting part of the article is that the writer assumes that it's the responsibility of the United States to defend Europe.
It places no responsibility on Europe to defend itself. It places no obligation on to Europe to build up its' own defenses. In short, the article views NATO as a one-sided arrangement where we expend American lives and treasure so the Europeans won't be discomfited.
That's a one-sided arrangement if I've seen one.

Breaking: NBC just announced a plan to withdraw anywhere from 25K to 40K troops, planes, and ships from NATO Countries. Unfortunately the article is behind a paywall so I can't read the time frame.
Given that there is discussion of permanent basing of troops in Poland, I think the message is clear that Italy, Spain and Germany are going to see a massive reduction of a US military presence.
I am sure those governments will get near hysterical but when we asked for their help, Italy and Germany turned their backs to us and Poland is a better deterrent location than Germany. Besides, it'll piss off Merz to no end.
