We would love to see more of your wildlife encounters and landscape views of the Water Park! We are starting the hashtag #WildWaterPark to showcase what the Cotswold Water Park has to offer! We look forward to seeing everyone’s contributions!
A rare opportunity to see some fantastic birds (and Lloyd and Rose of course) close up. Don't miss out on tickets for this fundraising event hosted by @Lakes_Brew_Co. Especially looking forward to meeting the Starlings... facebook.com/BucksBirdsUK/vi… #CWPBirds #Birds #Springwatch

First time checking on the new pond in a couple of weeks. Water has receded quite a bit but is holding in the deepest part of the pond. Diving beetles have found it now. Orchids starting to flower nearby, hopefully in time they will spread to the ground surrounding the pond! 🪲🪻
We used some spare digger time to create a new wetland feature on the reserve. This low ground usually collects water during wet periods and so should make a good ephemeral pond. Looking forward to seeing how it develops 💦🐸🌱

@CWPBirds 2 Black-tailed Godwit on the receding floodwaters at North Meadow, Cricklade, today, found by Fran Tattersall @WiltsBirdClub @ThamesPathNT
Finally seen our first Sand Martins of the year and more than 100 of them over L74. Willow warblers also singing now too.
An excellent summary of the issues surrounding rare breeding birds that almost negates the need for my annual reminder. However, I’ll briefly request that locations are not published for LRP, Bittern, Marsh Harrier, and Nightingale in the @CotswoldWaterPk 1/2

It’s also important to think carefully before sharing sightings (e.g. on social media) of rare breeding birds in the breeding season - could this lead to disturbance, or worse? Read the RBBP guidance here tinyurl.com/RBBPsound. If in doubt, don’t!
Please continue to send the records to @CWPBirds and they will be forwarded appropriately to the county recorders. If any other species give you pause for consideration then please follow the same approach. 2/2

This week it really feels like spring has been fast upon us, the arrival of some early migrant birds, more insects buzzing around and flowers in bloom. Looking forward to some drier spells to clear us of the remainder of the floodwater!

@ThamesPathNT at Waterhay is still currently underwater heading downstream. In places almost a foot of surface material has been lost in the floods over the last couple of years. The alternative route via Cleveland Lakes is also still closed due to flooding and flood damage. 🌧️
We need to find solutions that allow floodwater to move freely but without causing long term or regular damage to key routes. Access to wetland landscapes is important for so many reasons, but especially for #MentalHealth. #WorldWaterDay2024
