Update from OTW’s tumblr. Notice how there is ZERO mention re the “consent issue” of sharing downloaded fics— just advice as to the more secure methods *without condemning* private drives at all while ALSO encouraging folks to continue sharing fanworks while the archive is down.

some of you bitches would dismantle the Wayback Machine if you understood what it was. People sharing epubs/pdfs aren’t doing anything different, hell one of the options for downloading is the raw HTML to make it easier to rehost. Drives are simply easier to navigate.

I cannot stress enough that AO3 won't exist forever. Smth will happen to it and millions upon millions of works are going to be lost bc of it and those few fanfics saved for personal use are going to be the only remnants of AO3 and it's work. Just saying.......

You know it is in fact okay to accept that every once in a while you may just not be the target audience for a piece of fiction, instead of pretending it sells millions for no reason.

all the people that are complaining about people sharing fics have some interesting things in common - joined fandom spaces after 2020 - 911 fans - seem to have the need for engagement and popularity above all else learn fandom history losers
