WotC has announced that the Monster Manual will be renamed The Creature Collection, following concerns that the term “monster” reinforces harmful stereotypes about creatures whose lifestyles differ from our own. “Just because a goblin murders a farmer or a hag cooks his children doesn't make them evil. For decades, we've encouraged players to kill these creatures without ever considering their perspective.” Beginning next year, Challenge Ratings will be replaced with Empathy Ratings. Players will be encouraged to acknowledge a creature's lived experience before resorting to violence.
