Take a moment to stop, think & verify before you click, reply or send money. Protect yourself by: 👾 Using strong, unique passwords & multi-factor authentication. 👾 Being cautious about what personal information you share online. 👾Avoiding unexpected links & attachments. 👾 Verifying unusual requests for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency or personal information, even when they appear to come from someone you trust. 👾 Keeping your devices & apps up to date and reviewing your social media privacy settings.

As the days get shorter, many Calgarians are on the road & sidewalks before sunrise. Reduced visibility makes it harder for drivers to see pedestrians, especially during the busy morning commute. Increase your visibility to prevent a collision and keep yourself safe. If you're walking in low-light conditions, help make yourself visible by: ✅ Wearing bright or reflective clothing. ✅ Using reflective accessories such as armbands or backpacks. ✅ Staying alert & keeping phones and other distractions to a minimum. A driver can't react to what they can't see. Taking a few seconds to increase your visibility can prevent a collision and keep you safe.

⚠️ We are warning Calgarians about fraudulent phone calls from scammers impersonating members of the Calgary Police Service’s senior officers’ team. 📞 In many cases, callers claim to be investigating the person they have contacted or leave a voicemail identifying themselves as a CPS officer or senior member. The phone number displayed on caller ID may also appear to be a legitimate CPS number. Remember, CPS officers will never contact you & request money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, banking information or financial cards as part of an investigation. Protect yourself from police impersonation scams: 🔹 Be suspicious of unexpected calls or voicemails from someone claiming to be a police officer, Deputy Chief, Chief or other CPS member, particularly if you are told you are under investigation or pressured to act quickly. 🔹 Do not provide personal information, banking details, passwords or identification documents to an unsolicited caller. 🔹 Do not trust caller ID alone. A displayed phone number can be spoofed to appear as though a call is coming from CPS. 🔹 Never send money, gift cards or cryptocurrency to someone claiming to be a police officer. 🔹 If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, hang up and contact CPS directly using a verified phone number. 🔹 Talk to family & friends about police impersonation scams so they know what to watch for. Anyone who has suffered a financial loss or had their personal information compromised as a result of fraud can report it to the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers.

Protecting yourself online goes beyond recognizing scams. During Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we're sharing ways to improve your security & reduce your exposure to cyber threats. Consider implementing these tips to strengthen your online security: 🔵 Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) whenever possible & use an authenticator app or security key instead of text message verification. 🔵 Use a password manager to create, store & manage strong, unique passwords for each account. 🔵 Keep your devices, web browsers & security software up to date by enabling automatic updates. 🔵 Turn on built-in browser security features, such as Google Safe Browsing or Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, to help detect & block suspicious websites. 🔵 Regularly review your account security settings & update passwords if you suspect an account has been compromised.

Today, we are publicly releasing the key themes from our operational & investigative review of the search for 11-year-old Parker. The internal review identified lessons learned, recognized what worked well & recommended practical improvements for future missing-person investigations & other prolonged critical incidents. It does not assess individual performance or reinvestigate Parker’s disappearance. The search became the largest missing person response in CPS history, involving a sustained, multi-agency operation, community participation & significant resources. The review recognized the commitment of members, partners, volunteers & the community, while identifying opportunities to strengthen systems. Key strengths included investigation-led search management, public awareness, technology & digital evidence capabilities, strong partnerships & the professionalism, compassion & adaptability demonstrated throughout the response. Opportunities for improvement included scalable resourcing, command integration, tip, task & canvass management, public alerting, technology readiness & member wellness. One key finding involved the unprecedented volume of information received, including approximately 1,000 formal tips, more than 90,000 direct social media messages, thousands of emails & approximately 10 terabytes of CCTV footage. While this information had significant investigative value, existing systems were not designed to easily manage information at that scale. Additional capacity & stronger systems would have helped CPS receive, assess, assign & track information more efficiently. The review does not conclude that different resources, systems or processes would have changed the outcome. Its recommendations will inform future policy, training, technology investments & operational planning. We recognize renewed discussion may be difficult for Parker’s family & friends, members involved in the response & others in our community. This release supports transparency, accountability & improvement while honouring the collective search effort.
