I’m going to go out on a limb with my theory on the trophy and this is pretty likely IMO. UMass has a sponsored trophy game with Buffalo. Learfield is very protective of their assets and potential inventory. Another trophy, of which has been talked about much more and not sponsored, would devalue the sponsorship sold by UMass Learfield. Both schools are refusing to acknowledge the trophy. Why would you let fans have something of intrinsic value? Everything needs to be sold… even if there’s nothing to sell.

The way we won last night is why I’m so high on Candle’s future. It was just a professional ass-kicking. Dare I say, boring! We had a very basic game plan - run it down their throats and trust that it would break UMass down - and it absolutely did. Defense forced 5 straight 3 and outs. Absolutely dominated. It was a must win game that was never in doubt and we just took care of business. 📈

Apparently UMass players were around the UConn sideline talking trash pregame. "We took it a little personal," Porter said. "We didn't overdo it or anything, we just let them do their talking and knew our game was gonna reflect who we are as a team. It definitely showed today."
