In writing, pacing refers to how quickly you reveal and explore information—and to readers, how quickly the story FEELS like it’s moving. This means that pacing applies to ANY genre, whether it’s poetry, nonfiction academic work, or a high fantasy novel.

I fall in love with all of my characters. Then I tear my heart out to make them suffer properly for the story. It’s the only way I know how to write.

A bad ending can give readers a bad impression of your book. The last thing you want is for them to finish the final page & feel unsatisfied.

People in my life learned this the hard way this past month when I was bedridden for over a week from an awful pain flareup and a full-body lockup. 🙃

When I tell young people about the Japanese American internment, they’re not going to grow up to be Japanese.
When I tell kids I’m married to Brad, they don’t suddenly ooze rainbows and turn gay.
They’re just learning about the world and others in it.
See how that works?

I'm seeing authors getting accused left, right and centre now. One cover being revealed to be AI does not mean the rest of us - many of whom have OLDER COVERS - deserve to be shredded publicly and called a liar when our own artists and designers are telling you you're wrong.

#writetip When writing your characters, give them weaknesses. Their weaknesses are what will make them interesting and relatable to your readers.
A character who is perfect doesn't hold the same appeal as a character with flaws.

Received an eARC from the publisher to review this amazing poetry book a few months ago (5/5 stars). Excited to have my own copy now that the book has been released! @CropTopAssassin
