On question 8 of Alberta’s referendum 58% of respondents voted that they do not want Canadian provincial governments to amend the constitution to opt out of federal programs ie healthcare, education and social services.
UCP has previously announced that they intended to leave the federal Canadian dental program by 2026.
The UCP also rejected participation in Canada’s national pharmacare program.
Danielle Smith is already taking the liberty to interpret what individuals intended when they placed their referendum votes and is planning to pass a law requiring proof of citizenship at Alberta’s next provincial election.
Albertans now need to demand that Danielle Smith @ABDanielleSmith pass a law that Albertans can access all federal programs in healthcare, education, and social services.
Qualifying Albertans should be able to access the federal dental program as well as the national pharmacare program.

.@ABDanielleSmith Really?
Is this what desperation and drowning look like?
Separatists, who got you elected, are the same ones as your antivaxxers (Dennis Modry and Mitch Sylvestre), convoy and border blockers (Chris Scott) and many others.
These are your supporters own it.
Just a constitutional reality check for those celebrating Smith’s narrow referendum win on immigration: Under Section 95 of the Constitution, if a provincial law conflicts with a federal immigration law, the federal law wins. Smith cannot unilaterally rewrite the rules.
If the UCP attempts to implement legislation based on the five immigration-related questions from the referendum, they face profound constitutional, jurisdictional, and international legal limitations that heavily restrict what a province can unilaterally enact.
Is populism beginning to fracture?
Alberta separatists failed completely, Trump’s approval sits at historic lows, and Poilievre is yesterday's man. The US midterms are predicted to bring political moderation, and in Alberta we have had enough of Smith's chaos and incompetence.

@ABDanielle told AB separatists to “find another home” or keep their opinions to themselves.
1. Why didn’t she make this statement prior to the referendum?
2. So, you will continue to welcome separatists into your govt, “as long as they are not vocal a/b it”?
Seriously?
Maybe it was worth the $125 M if Smith's time as Premier comes to an end, and / or the UCP fragments and a new right-wing party is formed.

This is so bad faith and dishonest that it causes physical pain in my body.

Albertans are dying because they can't get timely care in emergency rooms.
And how has Danielle Smith responded? She's done nothing but waste all of our time and $200 million on a separation referendum we all knew would fail.
Albertans deserve a government that will make life better for them.

CTV News is fact-checking Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's claims that Thomas Lukaszuk forced her hand in putting the question of separation on the ballot.
Spoiler alert: nuh uh, Smith.

“It cost us probably at the end of the day about $200 million in tax payer money to do this. That would’ve hired teachers, doctors, nurses, 7500 EAs on five year contracts for example. The feeling I got from Albertans crossing every corner of the province, from the Peace Country down to the US border, is people were saying why are we going through this?”

The recent referendum results prove that voters in Calgary and Edmonton have the power to stop the UCP's regressive politics and end the waste and corruption. I am more optimistic than ever that Alberta can become a more progressive, prosperous province. We can do so much better.
The data is clear: separatists don't represent Alberta, yet they hold massive sway over the UCP. Moderate conservatives need to stop compromising and officially break away.
I'm still shocked that the UCP burned through $125 million of our hard-earned tax dollars on that total shit-show.
Millions of Albertans have every right to be pissed.
I am curious to know about how Alberta "patriots" feel about Smith abrubtly kicking them out of the UCP today.
That has got to sting just a little after such a crushing defeat at the polls. If I was part of the Independence movement, I would be pissed.
The results across all 9 convoluted questions—coupled with the staggering cost—prove that this referendum is yet another colossal failure by Smith & the UCP. They have emerged with no mandate to act, & their aggressive "sovereign Alberta" rhetoric is cooked.
