“We've heard nine solid reasons why to say no (to #TSMV). Many of us feel there is a huge case to say no — I'm kind of wondering why we should say yes.”

Whether you speak up for wildlife, a stable financial future, a bit of both or some other aspect, we encourage you to do so starting March 9, in person or in writing, at the public hearing.

DYK: #TSMV's Smith Creek proposal would require expanding #Canmore’s urban growth boundary, rezoning 80 acres of “conservation of wildlands” (CW) for development?
What's CW and how big of a deal can 80 acres really be? Let’s go deeper⬇️

At 1st reading on Feb 9 2021 TSMV suggested that CW zoning was a decades-old accident.
It’s not.
It was a deliberate decision by council in 1998 when a need to reclaim Thunderstone Quarry for wildlife was recognized. Hence the rezoning from resource extraction ➡️conservation

ALT Screenshot of text from CanmoreCommons.com reads: What is a "conservation of wildlands" zone? The purpose of a Conservation of Wildlands (CW) zone according to Canmore’s Land Use Bylaw is: "To designate areas for the protection, conservation and enhancement of the environment including biological diversity, the protection, conservation and enhancement of natural scenic or aesthetic values and where consistent with either of the above, for low-impact recreational, open space or environmental educational use."
So, the biggest question: Will @townofcanmore change the rules in order to accommodate development at Smith Creek?
One thing we do know: you can weigh in. What's your vision for the future?
Have your say at the March 9 hearing, in person or writing bowvalleyengage.com/take-act…

Do any of you Bow Valley folks have a question to add here?
What are some common Q's you hear, or wonder yourself, about wildlife crossing structures? We are compiling a "common Qs" infographic and would love to hear from you. One ex.: Will predators "camp out" and kill prey?- @adamTford science to the rescue saying probably not.
