All go with our new research project in conjunction with @Canvasbeer. We’re growing heritage wheat and barley to assess their popularity in bread and whiskey. Thanks to @agriculture_ie for the funding under the Conservation of Genetic Resources grant 🌱🍞🥃
Suitable for beer also obviously! 😉
With such instability in the world, seems logical to try grow more food and reduce dependency on imports
The hope is for milling wheat 🌾 and to give it the best shot we will be sowing so Landsorten Mariagertoba
Wish us luck 🤞

Plenty of diversity amongst the organic heritage wheat @farmbrookfield.
Was this what fields looked like when these grains were grown?

Wet & Windy May
Fills the barn with Barley & Hay
Heavy rain & wind is a challenge for tall straw crops, particularly if too much nutrients are available.
Marris Otter here has some damage, while some of the tall straw wheat also under pressure.

Heritage winter barley, Marris Otter coming along nicely.
This variety prevalence in the heart of brewers is one of the reasons @MauriceDeasy embarked on the search for Irish Heritage grains.
Will still take another year...

Took a moment to watch a blackbird eating an apple from the tree. The Camera doesn't capture what the eye sees but it does show the diversity of plants just outside the brewery door.
This is a farmhouse brewery after all
