This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed.
This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.
Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.
Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children.
Abolish ICE.

We’re the wealthiest country in the world. Kids shouldn’t be going hungry.
But ever since Trump’s cuts to SNAP, food insecurity is rapidly rising across the country.
We MUST reverse these cuts.

"DHS said that ICE doesn’t zip-tie or restrain children...But agents handcuffed a 15-year-old with disabilities outside a school in Los Angeles in 2025... A few months later, officers detained more than a dozen American children during a raid on an Idaho horse track."
New: The government doesn’t track how often immigration officers detain U.S. citizens. So ProPublica did. We’ve found more than 500 Americans who were held against their will during this Trump administration. propub.li/4zmkdnX
"The Trump administration has repeatedly said its agents are just questioning citizens, not detaining them — even when they’re in handcuffs or held for hours... Citizens around the country have been detained because, they’ve said, of their skin color, accents or jobs."

What a sad state of affairs when a president can joke about letting Iran “take out” Los Angeles or San Diego and it barely makes news.
Can you imagine the outrage if any other president said that?
America – we can do better than this.
I am so very sad to read this. What beautiful work she did:

For many years, it was widely assumed that science and tech could explain everything. But as it turns out, there are issues where you don’t need a guy with a degree in computer science. You need philosophers and theologians and artists and students of literature.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

I visited @cornellsun students at their office last night — and talked with them about the campus rape case they've been investigating for 23 months, and the decision to publish the names of the seven men involved in the lawsuit on their front page. nytimes.com/2026/09/29/nyreg…

They’re being very frank about the fact that they want to abolish human art & creativity entirely. They envision a future where we live a joyless existence as serfs while machines write all the songs and novels. It’s hard to imagine a darker dystopia, but they are eager to build it.

1/NEW: Trump’s rush to deport as many immigrants as possible is creating a new family separation crisis. Like last time, the admin claims this is untrue. But separations are not hard to find, as I learned while reporting on cases in AL, CA, IL, MO, and TX. theatlantic.com/magazine/202…
These are the fields that strengthen and sustain critical thinking, creativity, vulnerable populations, independent voices, basic goodness. That the Trump administration would attempt to silence them is one more hugely red flag.
Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/NmmAzhf
