Takeaways/questions from UConn-Michigan State exhibition: -Oskar Giltay is a force on the boards -Nils Machowski will have some “Joey California vs Georgetown” games for UConn -Will Nik Khamenia be UConn’s closer? -Just how scary will UConn be once Braylon Mullins returns?

Final box score from East Lansing: UConn 78 Michigan State 70

Colben Landrew is an absolute bully going to the rim

Solid defensive showing for UConn in the first half against Michigan State. Forcing a lot of turnovers and rebounding well. Offense still looking a bit sloppy but they should find their rhythm as the season goes along.

Watched UConn play basketball. Sat in a Dan Hurley press conference. Listened to spaces on the drive home. We are so back

Silas is the hide and seek champion

Immediate takeaway from the UConn presser. This fan base is going to fall in love with Najai Hines

Nik Khamenia: “AK was able to come back in the Summer. Just picking his brain a little bit for things he found to succeed here. I know he went to 3 national championships in 4 years. Those are extremely big shoes to fill. I’m trying to learn and grow everyday.”

Dan on the sluggish start to the game: “I think Jayden Ross could’ve fouled out in about five minutes based on what was going on”

“Silas is maybe the best ball hawking point guard in the country”

Dan Hurley: “I think our team defensively could be one of our best defensive teams”

Coaching up your players doesn’t stop just because you’re in the presser. Dan had some pointers for Nik Khamenia while Najai Hines answered a question.

Dan Hurley on a potential future regular season matchup with Syracuse: “The last couple of years it maybe hasn’t been a game that would have made as much sense for us… I have a pretty good idea of where this going to go with Gerry coaching”

“He’s talented like Adama… like Tarris… I don’t want to throw Donovan’s name in there yet… but he (Na’jai) was the most impressive player on the court.” Coach Hurley on Na’jai Hines

“Whether it’s a home and home or at MSG…It’ll be a game that we’ll want to play.” Dan Hurley when asked about scheduling Syracuse in the regular season

Na’jai Hines postgame about transferring to UConn: “to wear this jersey, to represent this program is a big burden, but at the same time, everybody on this team is ready to step up.”
