ONYEKACHUKWU

This is common among some Igbo women, but not all Igbo women. And no, it’s not specific to Anambra women alone. It happens across most of the eastern states. Let me tell you a story. 😂😂 When I was in my third year, my elder brother wanted me to visit him and his family. The problem was, I didn’t know how to visit people in their homes, especially family members. 😭😂 After much back and forth, I finally agreed. Within the first few days, I noticed that the little boy living with them was doing way too much work for a child his age. My brother had two children at the time, and because of his work schedule, he would leave home in the morning and return late at night. So, he was hardly around to see what was happening. About five days into my visit, I couldn’t take it anymore. The boy was around 12 years old. Every morning, he would wake up and sweep their entire three-bedroom flat, mop the floors, wash the bathrooms (which I found odd because, even in my own house, I don’t wash the bathrooms every single day), and do other chores. To make matters worse, the week I visited, their pumping machine broke down, so this boy had to fetch water from downstairs all the way up to their apartment. Mind you, they lived in a two-storey building! Bro! I nearly lost my mind. 😭😭 Five days into this nonsense, I woke up, went straight to my brother’s wife’s room, and told her, “Look, this is what’s going to happen. If you cannot treat this boy with at least a little compassion, then you have no business taking him into your home.” Of course, she got angry and called my brother to complain that I was being disrespectful to her. My brother knew better than to come and start shalaye with me because he knew the kind of sister he had. 😂😂 When he returned home, he called me out, and I came. I then called the little boy and asked him to list everything he did every morning before going to school. When the boy finished listing his chores, my brother was shocked. He immediately told him to go inside, pack his bag, and get ready to be taken back to his people. And guess what? Since that day in 2014, I have not spoken to his wife. Not once. NOT ON MY WATCH. NEVER! I’m a very observant person, and if you try to pretend around me, I will know. You can only pretend for so long. 😂 Now, let me tell you another thing. Before my brother married this woman, I told my family that I didn’t think she was a good person. Why? She dated my brother for three years, dumped him for some guy living abroad, and when that relationship failed and the guy dumped her, she came back to my brother. And my brother married her! 😭😭😭 At that time, I nearly went crazy because me wey dey think say my brother get sense, only for love to blind him eyes like this! 😂😂😂 And this same woman is currently showing my brother shege. From what I see, she is disrespectful and wicked towards him. But wetin concern me? Na him shoe, make he wear am. 😂😂 I warned him, but he didn’t listen. Who no see signs go see wonders. Abi, how una take dey talk am? 😭😂 Oh! Before I forget, she is NOT from Anambra State.
