Ready for Parent University! Going beyond books to improve our reading comprehension- To Comprehension, and Beyond! #WeAreOneEdison #EdisonK12
Writing “lab” today- using our senses to explode a moment. Explored and charted about cheese balls to write a descriptive piece. Results were delicious!
Building sociograms in our book clubs today. I love that I’m a “new teacher” again in year 17 and have to learn all new things.
Love the creativity of my #jamazing 8th graders! Creating symbolic representations for characters from The Outsiders and blowing me away with their creativity and deep thinking!
Before starting a project heavily focused on symbolism they had a ten minute challenge to create a symbol about themselves using only 3 pipe cleaners in a limited time. Results were #Jamazing
Bus duty is my favorite part of my #JAMazing day because I get to see all my kids from last year! It’s a daily bus reunion… I wish I could get a pic of all of them! How lucky am I to follow these awesome kids to middle school?! #ShineBrightEdison
Adjusting to middle school after 16 years in elementary has been new, but moments like this make it so sweet. One of my #jamazing students packed me homemade cookies and decorated the bag! Loving forming relationships in my new school.
This meme will probably be dated by the time the kids come 9/6, but so excited for this bulletin board. Made some for the books we read and/or are popular, and have a template for the kids to make their own of books they’d recommend.
Change is bittersweet, and leaving my home at @mlk_elementary is hard, but I am so excited to be joining the staff at @JAMS_Knights! My teacher soul needed this spark, and I cannot wait to learn and grow in this new school!
Thank you @SamipJoshi for reading to us for Read Across America! The kids are STILL talking about your visit!
A new year starts in 3 days. My latest blog post focuses on stepping away from the fear of how/what/where, and focusing on who/why.

My latest article for @NNSTOY relates to the current state of being a teacher, and how and why I choose to “go high when they go low.” nnstoy.org/stoyblog/these-te…
During social groups, my students asked me to dance to Just Dance with them. So I did. My son walked in the room & yells, “OMG YOU ARE SOOO EMBARRASSING! Stop that!” My kids loved this more than my (horrible) dancing. Bonus of remote they never get in school- seeing my home life!
Inspired by @TheAmandaGorman , one of my incredible 5th grade writers wrote this poem that brought me to tears in class today. Words and actions have power, and the kids are always watching! #shinebrightedison #InaugurationDay @mlk_elementary
Lesson 1- when planning social groups, don’t put “exercise group” & “video game group” at the same time. The cheese stands alone- & I’M THE CHEESE! We will be swapping this time out for sure 😂 Wednesday is the only day both groups are @ the same time & clearly video games > yoga
Inspired by the incredible PD with @MisterMinor this week, we are adding social groups into our day starting next week! Two groups are offered per day and the kids can choose one to attend (or not) each day. Looking forward to this so much! @PamLuckenbaugh #shinebrightedison
By 5th grade most of my students know WHO Martin Luther King Jr is, but today during Fun Read Aloud Friday we will explore part of the WHY behind what he did and HOW he did it. I am obsessed with this book, the blending of current and past, and doing it all perfectly for kids!
“We cannot do to children what the world is doing to us right now.” Expectations need to be humane and realistic. @MisterMinor THANK YOU.
