Are you vegan, or violent?

Today is the day New York City Council will vote on whether to ban horse-drawn carriages from the city (to be phased out by 2028). We call on NYC to do the right thing and end this cruel enslavement of animals. Animals who should never have been forced to pull people around all day. "Veganism is putting people out of jobs in the farming industry tho." / "Ban lab-grown meat to protect farmers tho." Industries are not entitled to people's custom. People do not deserve to have jobs making a product that people don't want. Why should a vegan have to buy a steak any more than a non-smoker should have to buy a pack of cigarettes?

An intelligent non-vegan is much easier to debate than a dumb one. An intelligent non-vegan: - will answer the questions you ask them; - sees the value in hypotheticals for stress-testing a position; - understands that showing the entailment of someone's logic is not the same as comparing two acts or saying they are the same thing. A dumb non-vegan: - dodges answering any question that exposes an inconsistent moral framework; - says "that's a stupid hypothetical" at extremely relevant hypotheticals that put their position under scrutiny for the first time in their lives; - thinks that showing the entailment of their logic is "comparing" two things. This is a general life lesson outside the realm of vegan debate too.

Being vegan isn't about whether you like or dislike certain foods...it's about whether you like or dislike SLAVERY.

Veganism is based on a preference—that animals prefer not to be brutally murdered.

Dear non-vegans: what makes you so special that you think animals exist to serve you?

Non-vegans often tell us, "I've never met a healthy looking vegan". Personally, I've never met someone who said this who looked healthier than me.

🧠 Studies back up the fact that Carnists ascribe the animals they eat lower cognitive abilities than the ones they don't, as a way to morally cope with the fact they pay for their torment and enslavement. 🥩🌱 In one such study,* participants were split into two groups: one group was fed beef jerky, the other was fed plants. While eating these foods, they were asked to rate the capacity of cows to suffer, feel pain, have emotions, and so on. 🐮 The beef jerky group overwhelmingly ascribed lower cognitive abilities to cows than the plant food group. 🍽 This is why vegan debates at the table with non-vegans while eating are often USELESS: the non-vegan will often just reinforce their own beliefs of animals as "inferior" as a result of their actions. Non-vegan ideology is so exploitative that they'll not only exploit animals, but even exploit the situations of people who allegedly "can't be vegan" to justify why they DON'T WANT TO BE vegan themselves!

Cows do not make milk because they are "farm animals". They do so because they are mothers.

Humans are nothing but bullies towards defenceless animals. In what kind of world is it considered "masculine" to support this fucked-up industry? WAKE UP!!

One of the social pressures a new vegan may face, due to being in such a tiny global minority, is wondering: "Am I a crazy person in a sane world? Good people all around me in civilised society choose to pay for animal abuse, so maybe I am just a weird one and they are right." And the answer is: no. You are a SANE person in a CRAZY world! Throughout every period in recent history, there was a large-scale injustice that the masses conformed to while a few "outsiders" lived way ahead of their time. One of those people is you.
