Good morning, Sunrisers! It's National Chicken Fried Steak Day — and it's officially Chicken Fried Steak Day in Texas by proclamation. Chicken fried steak likely owes its origins to the German immigrants who populated so many Texas towns, tenderizing thin, tough cuts of beef and breading them much like their traditional method of cooking pork or veal as wiener schnitzel. To me, it is a quintessentially Texas comfort food, although it is popular throughout the South, as well as in Oklahoma. My husband meets a couple of guys for lunch once a week. It started as a quest for the best burger. It turned into a regular date at a local diner, where they all order chicken fried steak. I grew up eating chicken fried steak with brown gravy, made from beef stock. Others swear by cream gravy, made after pouring off most of the fat from the cast-iron skillet in which these were fried and adding milk. Either way, the dish begs for fluffy mashed potatoes — and another ladle full of gravy. With green beans — the kind out of tbe can but flavored with a strip of bacon — this is my brother's birthday dinner every year, as far back as I can recall. My husband orders his with collard greens, mostly because he never gets them at home (can't stand them). We put chicken fried steak on our Game Day menu when Texas A&M joined the SEC. Last Saturday, my husband opted for grilled steaks instead (our go-to for Mississippi State, since we don't eat bulldogs, and the University of Texas, since why not eat Bevo?). It worked, but I did worry during the first quarter whether we had jinxed the team by opting for grilled tenderloin rather than chicken fried steak. Supposedly, one can chicken-fry tenderloin. My mother used to tell a story about a wealthy Texan in Houston on a business trip who dined at an exclusive club — I can't recall if it was for cattlemen or oil men — who, asked how he wanted his very expensive prime filet, replied, "Oh ... chicken fried" and got it. I bet it was good, too! Time now for coffee, prayer, and more sewing before physical therapy this afternoon. God bless all here. 💛
Good morning, Sunrisers! Today is National Mother-in-Law Day. I've known many mothers-in-law who were the biggest — and even successful — threats to their children's marriages. I was in two weddings where the animosity of the groom's mother for the bride was so great the entire bridal party were walking on eggshells. Twice we literally held our breath, expecting her to pipe up when the minister called out "Speak now, or forever hold your peace." Neither spoke out, but neither did they hold their peace. One bride soon refused to visit her husband's parents or allow his mother in their house. The other divorced both mother-in-law and son. My mother-in-law was ready to love me from the day I met her, and she did. She told everyone that I was the daughter she'd always wanted, and she always treated me like she had given birth to me herself. "A mother-in-law’s praise says more in a woman’s favor than anything else in the world.” — Caroline Pafford Miller My mother-in-law bragged to her friends about "how good" I was to her. I know, because they told me all the time. But the credit is hers, not mine. I'm not stupid: When my husband's mother offered me not just friendship but real maternal love, I grabbed it — and never let go. I already owed her a lot. She trained my husband to open doors and hold chairs for me. She taught him that a woman likes to show off new clothes and new hairstyles. I was floored the first time I brought home new clothes when he said, "Fashion show!" and sat back so I could model each new purchase for him. New shoes and new hairstyles need an outing, usually dinner. And she didn't hesitate to tell my husband he was wrong. She was very upset that he didn't call me from the first trade show he attended after we married. When he got home, she and my father-in-law had a talk with him. "When you have a wonderful mother-in-law who takes sides with you in squabbles with her own daughter — that’s something.” — Lou Gehrig Mom, for she quickly became a mom, and I had fun together. We went to our fitness center together, we shopped together. She insisted on buying me a fur coat because I'd always wanted one. Most importantly, she represented God's love to me more clearly than everything that I had experienced before. I had been sharp with her. In my defense, I had been in a LOT of pain that day. But if anyone deserved my courtesy and kindness in every circumstance, she did. The next day, I walked the path between our house and hers, scuffing my shoes in the sandy soil and feeling lower than the worms I looked for. I was going to apologize, and I was filled with such shame I didn't know how to begin. I never had to. She had already forgiven me. She'd known immediately that the day before had been a bad one for me. She had refused to take offense when she had every right. She had simply been waiting for me to receive her forgiveness. I had 18 years with her, and it wasn't enough. I miss her every day. "A mother gives you a life, a mother-in-law gives you her life." — Amit Kalantri Time for coffee and prayer. God bless all here. 💛

New York is a prime example of how not requiring IDs to vote plays out. The once most fiscally successful state in America is run by a cesspool of whining terrorists or terrorist aligned unemployable idjits!

"Just as men spontaneously praise whatever they value, so they spontaneously urge us to join them in praising it: "Isn't she lovely?" "Wasn't it glorious?" "Don't you think that magnificent?" The Psalmists in telling everyone to praise God are doing what all men do when they speak of what they care about." — C.S. Lewis, from Reflections on the Psalms For reflection: Psalm 150
"I will never laugh at anyone for grieving over a loved beast. I think God wants us to love Him *more,* not to love creatures (even animals) *less.* We love everything *in one way* too much (i.e., at the expense of our love for Him), but in another way we love everything too little. "No person, animal, flower, or even pebble has ever been loved too much — i.e., more than every one of God's works deserves." — C.S. Lewis, from a letter For reflection: Psalm 148:1-14

Please California! Vote for Steve Hilton for Governor and all Republicans on the ballot
I'm not the right-wing candidate. I'm the right THING candidate. Store owners pay taxes while illegal vendors steal their business. Nonprofit CEOs make millions while the homeless suffer on our streets. Politicians like Becerra line their pockets while working families struggle to pay rent. In California, people are punished for doing the right thing. In just nine days, we say ENOUGH.

Good morning, beloved family in Christ. ☀️🙏 As the light of a new day breaks, may this word from Proverbs 4:23 settle deep into your spirit: “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.” There is something tender and urgent in that call. Our hearts are not merely the seat of emotion; they are the wellspring from which every thought, word, decision, and relationship flows. Emotionally, we know how quickly the cares of the day, old wounds, or the noise around us can muddy those springs. When the heart is left unguarded, anxiety, bitterness, or distraction can quietly take root and color everything that comes out of us. Yet when we watch over it with diligence—through prayer, honest confession, and the steady intake of God’s Word—those same springs begin to run clear again, carrying peace, strength, and life to everyone we meet. Spiritually, this verse points us straight to Jesus, the true source of living water. He alone can keep the heart pure, renew it when it grows weary, and cause rivers of His life to flow through us (John 7:38). Personally, I am reminded each morning that guarding my heart is not about building walls; it is about opening it fully to the Lord so He can protect, fill, and pour through it. The diligence is ours; the life is His. Let us begin today with a simple prayer: Lord, I place my heart before You. Guard it from every distraction and every harm. Fill it with Your truth, Your love, and Your peace so that from it may flow springs of life—into my home, my conversations, and every place You send me. Amen. May your heart be watched over, your spirit refreshed, and your day overflowing with His goodness. Walk in His strength, dear ones. 💖🛡️✨

Your night is not your ending. 🌅 The storm may have kept you up, and the tears may have been real. But God never asked the night to have the last word. ✝️"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." Psalm 30:5 (NKJV) Lord, for every heart still waiting on its morning, hold them close tonight. Dry their tears, steady their faith, and let them wake to Your joy. In Jesus' name, amen. Hold on. Morning is coming. 🙏

If church filled your cup today, but life has already tried to spill it… take a breath. 🙏❤️ Don't let the worries of tomorrow steal the peace God poured into your heart today. The same God who met you in worship this morning will walk beside you through every challenge Monday brings. ✝️“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV) He didn't promise us a week without storms, but He did promise us His presence through every one of them. ❤️ Lord, thank You for today's Word. Let it take root deep in our hearts, not just for Sunday, but for every day ahead. Guard our peace tonight, quiet our anxious thoughts, and renew our strength for whatever Monday holds. Remind us that we don't have to carry tomorrow's burdens tonight. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen. 🙏 If you needed this reminder tonight, drop an AMEN. ❤️ And tell me, what was one thing from today's church service that spoke to your heart?
