We need real police department reform. Every police officer involved in a killing must be held accountable, and those found guilty must be punished with the full force of the law. Every killing of a person held in police custody must be investigated by the Department of Justice.

Lost my glasses and my ankle is in searing pain after NYPD hit me in the face multiple times with riot shields and pushed me to the ground. I was backing away as request, with my hands up. My NYPD-issued press badge was clearly visible. I’m just sitting here crying. This sucks.
This thread. I can't help but think of Dad and that he thought of these questions when considering where we should go to school, where we should live, which businesses to support. (@KatharineNyden, @ChrisNyden) I can and should do better.

Harder: interrogate the ways your daily life contributes to inequality. How diverse is your neighborhood? How segregated is the school your child attends? Are the owners of your favorite businesses primarily one demographic? Does your social circle primarily look like yourself?

In extraordinary times like these, it's natural to look for extraordinary actions to take to make things better. But, unfortunately, these extraordinary times are the result of a lot of very ordinary behavior. Look at your day-to-day actions for ways to make a lasting difference.
I opened my journal from last year. A year ago from today was the first time I wrote about Dad’s death (he died 1/6/18). This paragraph hit me because the image of him lying there in the hospital bed and the feeling of his warm hand are still vividly imprinted in my head.
We never know what pain others are carrying. It’s hard to share pain. It makes us vulnerable which is something that’s not often embraced in our society. It’s also hard to hear others’ pain. It’s hard just to sit and be, to not immediately try to fix with words or actions.

Last week with HelloOffice was amazing. ❤️ My favorite part was our conversations and hearing everyone’s stories. I was almost crying while listening to them. You all are the best.… instagram.com/p/Bmr5B9xlWbX/… – at Calistoga, CA
