We only made it into the 70s today, which means our 16-day streak of highs at 80° or warmer in #Syracuse has come to an end. 🥵

In June and July 2020, we had a stretch of 43 consecutive 80°+ days! That also happened in 1949. 🗓️

An unseasonably cold pattern is favored across most of the central and eastern US end of April into early May. Possible much below normal temperatures and near freezing low temperatures across parts of the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region could damage early blooming crops.
ALT CPC Week 2 Hazards Outlook (left) issued Apr 24, 2026 for May 2-8, 2026 shows a moderate risk (40 to 60 percent chance) of much below-normal temperatures for parts of the Midwest, May 2-3. A broader slight risk (20 to 40 percent chance), May 2-4 covers much of the central and eastern CONUS excluding the Deep South.
ALT CPC’s 6-10 Day Temperature Outlook (right) issued the same day for April 30-May 4, 2026 shows most of the areas across the central and eastern CONUS (excluding the FL peninsula and northern Maine) with favored below normal temperatures. The greatest chances for this category is indicated for the Ohio Valley and Lower Great Lakes with a 60-70 percent chance).
