The greatest frontier before us isn't the Arctic. It's ourselves. The deepest Polarian task is to destroy the assumption that the Canada we inherited represents the outer boundary of the Canada that is possible. That our risk-aversion is permanent. That our Mediocracy is cultural destiny. That our colonial relationship to ambition, scale, power, and history is permanently and irreversibly etched into the name "Canada" itself. It isn't. Civilizations are not condemned to remain prisoners of the anthropologies that produced them. A people can remake itself. Refuse the ceiling.

How Brian Kelly turned a $10,000 first-class flight into a $4,800 ticket. Lufthansa makes first-class award seats difficult to book with miles, but its upgrade system creates another way in. Brian used it to cut the cost of an 11-hour first-class flight by more than half. How Brian saved over $5,000 on Lufthansa First Class “Lufthansa doesn’t let you redeem most miles for their first class, but they do let you upgrade.” “I’m flying to Johannesburg from Frankfurt, and it was $10,000 for first class. What I did was I booked a $3,000 business class flight, and instantly Lufthansa lets you see if there’s an upgrade to first class.” “For me today, it was $1,800. So, $3,000 ticket and $1,800 to get first class on the 747 on an 11-hour flight versus paying $10,000.” Brian Kelly: How I Made $300K Per Month With Affiliate Marketing via Trailblazers Podcast
My conversation with Brian Kelly. Brian is the founder of @thepointsguy, which he turned from a $50-per-ticket side hustle into a major travel media brand before selling the company for $28 million. We discuss how he went from making $5,000 in his first month of affiliate marketing to $300,000 a month, the New York Times article that led to a $120,000 day, why founders should bootstrap whenever possible, and how mastering media can transform a business. We also discuss: - Why raising venture capital isn't always the right decision - How Brian sold The Points Guy without outside VC or an investment banker - Why founders need to become better at media - What Brian looks for when angel investing in founders - Why building an audience can matter more than perfecting your product - What a business coach taught Brian about his weaknesses as a manager - Why Brian stepped away from managing The Points Guy day-to-day - How to find business and first-class flights using points - Why last-minute award bookings can unlock better deals - How Brian maximizes the points he earns from credit cards Enjoy! The Canada Investment Summit attracted about 250 leading financial CEOs, senior executives and Canadian political leaders. They formed a dense cluster of financial firepower - about $120-trillion in assets between them - around Toronto’s Four Seasons hotel on Monday and Tuesday. Roughly 80 side events were scattered around the downtown core. Time after time, CEOs with enormous influence over the global flow of capital told Canadian politicians and business leaders they were impressed, that Canada is sending the right, investor-friendly signals and that the country’s trajectory has caught their attention. But they also bluntly reminded those Canadian leaders – on stage, in private, even in conversations with reporters – that what matters from now on is executing the plan. To prove its case, Canada has to deliver more investable deals and a less sluggish regulatory process. theglobeandmail.com/business…

After the president's executive order calling for a US Space Academy, states have been pushing to make the case for why the school should call it home. The EO called for a civilian, NASA-led answer to the military services academies, and created a commission to sort out further details, such as curriculum, service requirements, and what would go into establishing the school. Even though submissions aren’t due until October 26, a few states are already working the crowd. If you want to know who the top contenders are and who is likely not in the running, read the latest from Payload reporter @vicky_woodburn ⬇️ payloadspace.com/states-camp…

Hard companies require real planning, patience, people and clear business, technology, and infrastructure moats. This is a great time to build a hard company with real business fundamentals as cleanly separated from current hype as possible. In 3-4 years when 90% of aerospace, defence, AI, etc. startups are wiped out because they can’t sustain the ridiculous valuations and false narratives they built their fundraises upon, assets will be available for cents on the dollar and the ones left standing will dominate the next few decades.

The Arctic is becoming one of the most strategically important regions on Earth. Yet much of the North still depends on fuel that must be shipped thousands of kilometres through some of the world's most challenging logistics corridors. That is an energy problem. It is also a sovereignty problem. Today, we're introducing POLAR-1, our transportable microreactor platform designed to provide reliable power for Arctic operations, defence installations, remote communities, and critical infrastructure. If Canada wants to project capability in the North, we need energy systems that can operate where conventional infrastructure cannot. That is what we're building. Proud of our team taking another step toward making strategically deployable nuclear power a Canadian capability. #ArcticSovereignty #EnergySecurity #Defence #NationalSecurity #AdvancedNuclear #Microreactor #CanadianInnovation #Arctic #DefenceTech
