My next single is called Drifting.
We shot the short film in Hollywood, but I never wanted it to feel like it belonged to a specific era. It uses the past without living in it.
SIGNAL 001 is the first look at the world we built.
DRIFTING.
Los Angeles. Behind closed doors.
Pending this week's meetings, we'll lock the release date within the next week.
Leave your name for the next transmission.

Can we stop with this? When Prince made that comment to Chris Rock, it was very obviously tongue in cheek. Do people really think a lyric wouldn't be adjusted if that was the only problem?
I've explained many times - Prince thought that the direction was wrong, and wasn't interested in presenting a tough-guy image in the face of the rising power of hip-hop. He instead decided to go in the other direction, which is why Camille and Lovesexy happened - his most androgynous, effeminate, aesthetic he had ever done, with the Lovesexy tour book being the most obvious example.
People need to understand that Prince's WHOLE THING was to zig when everybody else was going to zag. If there was a popular change happening in culture, his gut reaction would be to to act subversively and do the EXACT OPPOSITE THING.
This is exactly why, even though he turned down "Bad" , he offered MJ the song "Wouldn't You Love To Love Me" - a song which he had previously offered to no less than three different FEMALE singers, and which was ultimately given to a 4th female singer, Taja Sevelle, a year later.
Leathers, a subway station, rival gangs? That's the complete opposite of what Prince was going for and the direction he personally felt Michael should be going for.
Michael Jackson planned “Bad” as a duet with Prince.
Prince turned it down over the opening line, “Your butt is mine.” The song hit #1 on this date in 1987.
Hearing some discussion about Prince mixes on "Timeless" vinyl being slightly different on vinyl to the CD/digital versions, and I think this article explains why. The same thing happened with the new Charli XCX, Olivia Rodrigo and Raye albums.
It seems to the case the lead-up time for vinyl is so much longer than CD and digital delivery, that in order to make the pressing deadline, the labels are submitting the vinyl version before the mixes are complete.
This is a trend that seems to happening to many artists, and while I don't personally wish to point fingers, it seems to be due to the record labels that this is happening.

I have it.
Machina box set on the left, Melon Collie & The Infinite Sadness box set on the right.
Machina is my favourite Pumpkins album.
Interesting news, and there's a Prince connection!
The first artist signed to this new label is Elle Bramhall.
Elle is Susannah Melvoin's daughter.
I caught it on the plane from London to LA, came down with symptoms four days later and it knocked me and Kim out for a week. It's VERY bad. I had to go to Urgent Care.
Almost certainly a hardcore new COVID strain IMO.
(I'm OK now)
I am THRILLED to once again be hosting a #Prince roundtable panel for @polishedsolid upcoming virtual event, and this one will be all about the 3121 album, an album that means a LOT to me! It's on Sunday 15th November.

Opener is a three way tie
"I ain't a killer but don't push me, revenge is like the sweetest joy next to getting p....."
"TO ALL THE KILLAZ AND THE HUNDRED DOLLAR BILLAZ"
"Rappers I monkey flip em with the funky rhythm I be kicking"
Yep. I'm one of the few people that has heard it, because someone involved with the track played it for me. I don't want to break trust and say exactly who, but not only did they play me the song, they played it from the multitrack session and isolated Michael's vocal and some of the instruments.
It's astoundingly good.
Now, as far as it coming out? D'Angelo Estate might have a hard time with that. My understanding is that Epic and the MJ Estate own the rights, because it was commissioned for the "Xscape" album, and didn't make the cut.
From what I was told, there was a disagreement about whether Mary J was the right person to be on it, with at least one stakeholder suggesting she be replaced with a different female singer (I also know who the replacement suggestion was, and frankly I think Mary is a better choice and did a stellar job).
My guess is, unless a LOT of money changes hands, Branca and Epic aren't going to let that one go so easily. This ain't like the Drake/Don't Matter To Me situation, and that one cost Drake a lot of money to get it, too.
Replying to @DamienShields
@DamienShields and @CaseyRain been told us about “Hot Fun In The Summer Time!!!”
She's not even anywhere close to the same league, and people misunderstand Prince as being a pop artist when that was simply one lane that he operated in.
At any given time, Prince was just as likely to make an instrumental jazz album (Madhouse, NEWS), a rock-opera (Glam Slam Ulysses), an acoustic guitar album (The Truth), a classical/ballet project (Kama Sutra), a straight up blues rock record (Undertaker) or any number of different types of project, as he would be to make a pop record.
That's why putting Prince in the same lane as anyone who has solely spent their career making mainstream pop music, simply doesn't make sense.
He was happy to visit that place sometimes. He did not live there.
Magician's Nephew is arguably Lewis's finest work, and yet has never previously been adapted to film, unlike "The Lion, The Witch..." which has had a ton of adaptations. You cannot truly understand Aslan, Jadis, or Narnia without knowing it.
This will be well worth a watch.
Hooking up the PCM70 unit for the song we are working on at EastWest Studio Five today! Fellow purple gear heads may know that Prince had them both at Sunset Sound and Paisley (all three studios), and that it was a core part of the Diamonds and Pearls production sound as well as Miko Weaver's guitar rig.
When my management (who worked with both Prince AND MJ) AND my A&R (who worked with Prince, U2, Bonnie Raitt, Katy Perry) are both headed to the Hollywood studio, you know the temperature in the kitchen is turning up a notch.
And maybe, just maybe, they both just saw the cut of the "Drifting" video too 🙃
Put that in your group chat where you love speaking my name. Pretentious? But you just keep eating it up! 😅
A new #Prince drop while I kick back in the self driving car is always a vibe.....Any guesses where I'm going? 😎
