We like @JoshuaTCharles and think his position has been misunderstood by some. The concern that some men may become excessively scrupulous about modesty is reasonable, but why not state that concern directly?
What do you all make of the broader modesty debate?
They first accuse you of assuming parental or spousal authority over women. When you clarify that you are offering fraternal correction, not issuing a command, they shift to dismissing the man’s judgment itself.
When you point out that this amounts to denying that good men can reasonably discern what constitutes immodest dress, they return to the authority objection.
So the argument moves endlessly back and forth: “You have no authority over me,” followed by, “Your judgment is invalid anyway.”
Ultimately, it reduces to: “Don’t tell me what to do with my body.”
That is feminism.
The irony is that, along their line of reasoning, they are grasping at authority they do not have by dictating what men may or may not regard as a red flag.

There was a line from Zohran Mamdani’s inaugural address yesterday that took my breath away. He said he intended to replace “the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.” Collectivism in its various forms is responsible for the deaths of at least one hundred million people in the last century. Socialist and Communist forms of government around the world today—Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, etc.—are disastrous. Catholic social teaching has consistently condemned socialism and has embraced the market economy, which people like Mayor Mamdani caricature as “rugged individualism.” In fact, it is the economic system that is based upon the rights, freedom, and dignity of the human person. For God’s sake, spare me the “warmth of collectivism.”
