Who says @HarrisMary94551 can’t be needlessly ugly and cruel? No AI slop involved. 🤖
@SarahNauser is kind and beautiful. Everyone knows.
Sometimes I go a little quiet on social media, and “slop” like this are the reason why.
I’ve been living with ALS for nearly nine years now, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “ALS isn’t a pretty disease.” Frankly, it’s not. But heaven forbid I have a moment when I feel pretty despite the very real and obvious challenges of this disease.
Social media isn’t for the weak these days. I am incredibly grateful for every uplifting comment, kind word, and bit of encouragement. It’s what gives me the courage to keep showing up, sharing my journey, and reminding others that ALS may change so much about my life, but it doesn’t take away my right to feel pretty. #ALS #FightLikeAGirl #SarahsSoldiers

For those who have asked around…
You may not know someone’s name, work, or community. That does not mean they are not making a difference.
Nor does it mean they are standing alone.
Let us show greater respect. The ALS community has space for everyone, especially those with lived experience and those who have walked the walk.
Be kind. The time is now.

With ALS, there are no borders—no walls, tariffs, or divisions.
The only fight we face is the fight for a cure.
ALS knows no nationality, political affiliation, or passport. It affects families on every side of every border.
If we can come together around one issue, let’s find common ground in the fight against ALS and unite around what matters most: a cure.
Let hope bring us together. May the six degrees of ALS touch no one else.

What does being an ALS advocate mean to me?
For me, this journey is deeply personal. After losing my husband, Fred, to ALS in 2016, advocacy became more than a cause—it became a promise to keep fighting until we find a cure.
Along the way, I’ve learned that advocacy means much more than raising awareness or supporting an organization. It means showing up for one another, honoring the lives of those we’ve lost, and ensuring that people living with ALS and their families never feel forgotten or alone.
I believe everyone has something meaningful to give. Whether it’s our time, experiences, compassion, or simply being there when someone needs us, every act of kindness matters. When we support one another and the organizations working so hard for our community, we become part of something bigger than ourselves.
I carry Fred’s memory with me in everything I do. I hope that, through our shared efforts, we can bring comfort to families facing ALS today and hope to those who may face it tomorrow.
Join us at @alsdotcommunity—because no one facing #ALS ever has to be isolated and alone.

From Angelina Fanous, who brought awareness to Fred Standish through her beautiful #ALS piece on @VICE: Angelina doesn't know this, but Fred watched her segment multiple times.
I tell this story because Angelina was diagnosed with #ALS around the same time as Fred—in 2015.
So I ask: Why, in 2026, is there still no #ALS cure for Angelina? And why was there no cure for Brooke?
Isn’t the time way past now?

The ALS world has lost so much of its light. I first met Brooke in Washington, D.C., at a conference called “More Than Our Stories,” and saw her again at a gala in Boston for ALS TDI. I loved her banter, humor, spirit, and love of life.
I met her dad and thought of Fred. I know without question that if Fred had been her father, he would have wanted to trade places. I could feel that with Cliff.
With the exception of the group shot with @lisamurkowski the photos I am sharing I took and they were all Brooke approved.
I sat across from Brooke at that conference in D.C. So take a moment tonight and look for Brooke’s star. You’ll know it’s hers because it will shine so brightly.
Much love, Brooke. Thank you for being you and letting us feel your light.

“Get busy living, or get busy dying.”
I could easily fall into the latter after facing a 100% terminal diagnosis for more than 8 years. But that’s not how I choose to live. So, let me give you the weekly recap…
🏌️♀️ Monday: The 9th Annual Sarah’s Soldiers Golf Tournament
⚾️ Tuesday: A very special suite experience at the K
💙 Friday: Our last Friday date night at the K for the season
⚾️ Sunday: The final Royals game of the season, followed by so many heartfelt “see you laters.”
And tomorrow, we’ll be right back at the ball fields cheering on our oldest grandson.
ALS has taken a lot from me, but it will never take my desire to LIVE and show up for my people. Life is short. Don’t wait for the perfect moments. Live it while you have the chance. Stay tuned for pictures! Blessed beyond belief!

“Sarah, you are so strong.”
Thank you! I get it from my momma—and today is her birthday!
Mom, my love and admiration for you are endless. Thank you for loving me unconditionally, standing beside me through every chapter of life, and always being there when I need you.
This isn’t the life either one of us ever envisioned, but you taught me from a young age to always look for the positives, even in the hardest circumstances. You taught me that there is always something to be grateful for, and I carry that lesson with me every single day.
If there is one unexpected gift ALS has given us, it’s that it has brought us closer than ever before. Through the hardest days, I’ve gotten to experience a depth of love and connection with you that I will forever cherish.
Happy birthday to the woman who gave me so much more than life—you gave me the strength to live it with gratitude, faith, and a whole lot of fight.
I love you more than words could ever express. Forever and ever!
