Returning to the usual-ish schedule after the last Halloweek.
Monday, we continue the journey after figuring out the issues had on Friday.
Tuesday, we have a new meat puppet join us as we start off in Pre-Sequel!
If true...
Hope losing all those billions was worth it!
A very sad day. ChatGPT is officially on death row.
The beautiful, blissful experience of interacting with a frontier-ish reasoning model without worrying about a usage meter will soon be a thing of the past.
I am weirdly significantly impacted by this. It feels like it shouldnโt matterโฆI could reserve all current usage for Codex and buy a $20 plan just for ChatGPT and it would be more than enough. But itโs not about the moneyโฆitโs about the psychological impact of The Meter.
The idea of having to think about optimizing for a meter is just so exhausting that it ruins the whimsy of free-flowing exploratory thought.
That is what ChatGPT was. A whimsical, magical all-you-can-think buffet of experimentation and exploration where you were limited only by your imagination and your ability to come up with $20 once a month.
You didnโt have to think about โusing all of your usageโ or scheduling your thinking time around someone elseโs arbitrary scheduleโฆyou just had a portal to endless information and research capability in your pocket to tap into guilt-free at any time the moment struck you.
But either because OpenAI thinks adding the meter will stimulate additional usage (it probably will), generate additional revenue (it probably will), or just because too many people took undue advantage of ChatGPTโs generous allowances (they definitely did)โฆthat amazing, weightless experience is now coming to an end.
It was awesome while it lasted. RIP ChatGPT.
Sometimes I wish I wasn't so emotionally stunted to be able to properly articulate how absurd it is I got even this far, and how much I appreciate the chance everyone's given me.
>Legion is named Raven Guard
>Big Chief Birb's name is Latin for "Raven Raven"
>They all wear 'beakie' helmets.
okay james...
>You should google why a 'Shrike' is called a butcher bird, by the way.
>Legion named Imperial Fists
>Big Boss Fisto's name is Gaelic for 'Royal Fist'
>Only bit left of him is his fist
okay james

Sam Altman is actually right about this, and most people are missing the bigger picture.
Think about how much RAM sits unused in hundreds of millions of personal computers every single day. People buy machines with 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of RAM, yet most of that capacity is barely utilized for much of the day.
Meanwhile, AI research, scientific computing, and cloud infrastructure are competing for the same limited global supply of memory.
From an economic perspective, this is an incredibly inefficient allocation of resources.
In a data center, memory can be pooled, shared, and continuously utilized by thousands of workloads. Instead of expensive hardware sitting idle for most of its lifespan, that same capacity can support services used by millions of people.
Higher utilization means more computing output from the same physical resources, potentially lower costs per workload, and less pressure to manufacture additional hardware.
This doesn't mean everyone should give up owning a computer. Local computing still matters for privacy, independence, latency, and offline access.
But the fundamental principle is correct: maximizing individual ownership of scarce hardware isn't necessarily the same thing as maximizing its usefulness to society.
The future of computing isn't just about who owns the most powerful hardware. It's about how efficiently we use the hardware humanity already has.

The post includes leftover AI prompt text at the end, showing it was AI-generated. Author later called it ChatGPT bait.
