Last night saw some of the greatest progressive victories in modern American history. All across the country, in rural and urban areas, Americans said NO to oligarchy, and YES to an agenda that fights for the working class.

Je ne m'abstiens pas : le droit de vote est crucial.
J'ai donc choisi le Charme de la Fresnaye...

TALARICO: “We just proved that all the money in the world is no match for the people of Texas.
We just showed that a politics of division is no match for a politics of love.
And we just sent a message to every billionaire megadonor, every trillionaire, megadonor. Every corrupt defender of this broken political system in this state, in this country, power belongs to the people.”

David Fincher’s The Killer is one of the best films of 2023. I said it immediately upon its release - I’m saying it now nearly 3 years later. Fincher & Fassbender are a beautiful combination & this is some of the sharpest direction we’ve ever seen from Fincher. I love how Fincher explores a man’s quest for perfection, only to constantly come up short. This is an underrated gem.

I'm a cardiologist.
Back against the kitchen wall, knees bent, two minutes. Rest. Four times.
In a 100-person randomized trial, doing that 3 days a week for 4 weeks lowered systolic pressure about 9 points more than in people who didn't.
Save this one.
Four weeks of wall squats reduced systolic blood pressure by nearly 10 points in adults with high blood pressure.
Researchers then compared continuing three sessions weekly with reducing to two, one, or none for another month. Systolic pressure remained roughly 7 mmHg below starting levels in the once- and twice-weekly groups. Continuing three sessions weekly produced the greatest reduction of about 14 mmHg. In those who stopped completely, blood pressure moved back toward baseline.
This fits with a previous analysis of randomized trials that identified isometric exercise, which involves holding a muscle contraction, as an effective way to lower resting blood pressure.
What interests me is the practical question - how much of an exercise benefit can we preserve when we temporarily have less time? This study suggests that reducing the frequency can retain part of the benefit for up to a month.
