In just twenty minutes, hackers moved billions of dollars out of Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange.
Binance initially suspected a compromised engineer's laptop. But investigators later discovered additional points of entry, suggesting a far more complex operation. Blockchain intelligence firms linked the attack to TraderTraitor, an elite hacking group associated with North Korea. The same group was previously blamed for stealing one point five billion dollars from Bybit.

Binance faces a reported $6.3B hack, and suddenly everyone is panicking, paranoid, and checking their wallets every 30 seconds.

The Binance hacker might have just pulled off one of the smartest moves I’ve seen in crypto.
First, Tether froze $1.5 billion in USDT.
Then Circle froze another $800 million in USDC.
At that point, it looked like the hacker’s money was trapped.
But apparently, he had already planned for that.
Instead of holding the stolen USDT in a wallet, he allegedly deposited it into Aave and used it as collateral to borrow ETH.
Then he walked away.
That’s where the story gets crazy.
Tether can freeze the USDT sitting in the wallet.
But it can’t freeze the ETH he already borrowed.
So now Aave is left holding frozen collateral, while the hacker is sitting on liquid ETH.
And unless the protocol can recover it somehow, he may not even need to pay the loan back.
Two companies froze billions of dollars in seconds.
But someone who understood how to use DeFi may have found a way around both of them.

The frozen $1.5B+ USDT and $800M+ USDC were held in the attacker's main wallet (shown in the post's image), not Aave. Only ~$60M USDT from a related wallet was deposited into Aave pre-freeze to borrow ~$45M ETH.

🚨 ASÍ ESTÁN INTENTANDO BLANQUEAR LOS 6.300 MILLONES ROBADOS A BINANCE.
Lo que está sucediendo detrás de este hackeo es una auténtica locura.
Los hackers, atribuidos por el FBI a Corea del Norte, están utilizando un sistema de movimientos automatizados para intentar dificultar el rastreo del dinero.
En apenas tres días y medio se han detectado unas 12.000 wallets y más de 40.000 transacciones.
¿Y cómo lo hacen?
🔹 Fragmentan los fondos y los distribuyen entre miles de direcciones.
🔹 Utilizan protocolos como Jupiter Lend, depositando fondos en bóvedas y trasladando los derechos de retirada a otras wallets, rompiendo así el rastro directo.
🔹 Cambian constantemente de blockchain y de activo mediante puentes y exchanges descentralizados.
🔹 Incluso han utilizado Privacy Cash, un protocolo diseñado para ofrecer privacidad y dificultar que se relacionen los depósitos con las retiradas.
Y aquí viene lo interesante.
Privacy Cash acaba de suspender temporalmente los depósitos después de detectar fondos vinculados al robo.
Mientras tanto, el FBI ha publicado cientos de direcciones relacionadas con los atacantes y ha pedido a operadores DeFi, exchanges y proveedores de infraestructura blockchain que bloqueen las transacciones procedentes de estas wallets.
Estamos viendo una carrera entre los investigadores que siguen el dinero y los hackers que intentan ocultar su procedencia.
Y aunque han conseguido congelar unos 2.850 millones de dólares, todavía quedan miles de millones fuera de ese bloqueo.
Robar 6.300 millones fue solo el principio. Ahora el verdadero desafío para los atacantes es conseguir utilizarlos sin ser detectados.

Tu veux acheter de la crypto, tu t'inscris sur Binance mais il faut se KYC.
Puis on te dit que les CEX c'est le mal alors t'achètes une Ledger.
Mais tu dois stocker ta seed phrase dans des bouts de papier répartis dans 24 pays dans le monde par mesure de sécurité.
Manque de bol, Ledger a une fuite de donnée, donc toutes tes infos sont dans la nature.
Avec ta Ledger tu joues un peu avec les "smart contracts" (DeFi, NFTs...), car c'est "l'avenir d'internet".
L'été, tu vends 1000 euros de Solana pour te prendre un peu de vacances.
Tu déclares sur Waltio et le fisc te prends 300 euros.
Manque de bol, Waltio se fait hack et tout ton patrimoine est dans la nature. Des mecs cagoulés kidnappent ta famille et te demandent une rançon de 5000 euros (il te reste 50$ car t'as tout all in dans le memecoin de ton influenceur préféré).
3 mois plus tard les smart contracts que tu as utilisé se font hack, et tu dois aller sur Revoke pour annuler 535 approvals sur 12 chains pour être safe. Cela te coute 800 euros en fees.
Tu en as marre et t'écoutes les maxis et passe all-in BTC.
Manque de bol, ta Ledger a une puce espionne et tu te fais drain.
Alors tu passes sur Coldcard. Un portefeuille par des maxis, pour des maxis.
Mais les coldcard se font hack.
Fatigué par tout ça, tu passes sur Revolut pour les cryptos. Au moins c'est géré par ta banque et y'a pas de risque.
Manque de bol, Revolut est victime d'une fuite de donnée. Ta fiche est de nouveau dans la nature.
Alors tu décides d'aller sur Binance, tu te dis "jamais de la vie ils se feront hack, ils sont trop gros pour ça ils ont forcément 4000 couches de sécurité".
Puis Binance se fait hack.
Mais askip les cryptos c'est l'avenir de la finance.
