Yes: the OBR downgraded the fiscal numbers by £16bn (actually £15.6bn) due to weaker productivity (red bar below). But it also simultaneously UPGRADED them by a whopping £32bn (blue bars). This chart from @TheIFS shows it pretty clearly👇

Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table, At which he's fed. Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes are the rule. Tax his work, Tax his pay, He works for peanuts anyway! Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat. Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt. Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think. Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries Tax his tears. Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find any way To tax his ass! Tax him all he has, then let him know That you won't be done Till he has no dough. When he screams and when he hollers; Then tax him more, take all his dollars Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in Which he's laid... Put these words Upon his tomb: ‘Taxes drove me to my doom...' When he's gone, Do not relax, It's time to apply Inheritance Tax! #BudgetDay

So to sum up this budget If you want to do the right thing and either Save, work more or hire people. - the government will punish you for doing so If you want to do fuck all, the govt will reward you with more money at the expense of the people doing the right thing This budget is the epitome of unfairness

Loved every glorious minute of this 🤣😂🤭 When the complete hypocrite Gary Neville was on Have I Got News For You, and was completely ripped to shreds for taking the Qatari’s money to commentate on the World Cup. He’s a charlatan and a divisive leftie

British police visited and questioned a journalist in her home because someone was offended by a year old post on X. Yes, in Soviet Britain you get interrogated for posting on social media.

A tale of 2 economies: The stock market is forward looking and is a measure of how the market sees the future for a region or asset class. It doesn’t care much about politics, but it does care how the decisions taken by government impact the economy. - Last week, the leading indicator in the UK, the FTSE 100, fell 1.5%. - In the same week, the leading indicator in the US, the S&P 500, rose almost 5%. The combined wisdom of all market participants believes in free market capitalism, small government and lower taxes and it’s placing its bets where these things are likely to thrive. Only 20 years ago, the UK stock market represented 11% of the global market. Today it’s under 4% and going lower. I’m a patriotic Brit, but my investment portfolio and those of our clients is positioned to capture where future growth will come from - and that’s not the UK. Until we become a meritocracy that supports growth and free enterprise, the UK will remain a place that investors will avoid.

🚨THE GREAT FARMING LAND-GRAB🚜 1. Hike inheritance tax in Budget on farms over £1million. Bankrupt 1000s of asset-rich/cash-poor farms 2. Send in civil servants to hoover up bankrupt farmland for £peanuts in fire sales 3. Build sprawling council estates nobody wants for Angela Rayner. Fill them with asylum seekers/ship out social problems from cities 4. Build wind & solar farms nobody wants for Ed Miliband's crackpot "Great British Energy" scheme 5. Annihilate food security, depend on cheap imports, destroy British farming/landscape forever Clarkson is right. Farmers have been "shafted". But is it being done deliberately?

👀 Just LOOK at the tax burden following this Budget. Not just the highest since the late 1940s (as per the previous govt's plans). The highest since comparable records began...

Embarrassingly for Reeves and Starmer, the OBR says this enormous budget will “leave GDP largely unchanged in five years”, though it temporarily boosts output in short term
