Finished this flag mod for the Historical Society as a tribute to Company D, 24th Georgia Infantry. He commanded the company for the first 9 months and resigned in May 1862 with poor health. John H. Corn is my 3x great grand uncle. Deo Vindice! 🫡

Today is my 3x great grandpaw's 200th birthday. Samuel Nicholson was born on Sep. 25th, 1826. He and his younger brother joined the 1st Georgia Partisan Rangers in early 1862, which evolved into Smith's Legion. As Smith's Legion would be split into separate infantry and cavalry units, he went into Company G, 65th Georgia Infantry and would soon be appointed the rank of 3rd Sergeant. His brother went into the 6th Georgia Cavalry as a private in Company A. In late 1863, both were home on medical leave and in 1864, both left home for Athens to enlist in Company I, 11th Georgia Cavalry through the end of the war. Samuel died in Apr. 1885 from phthisis(tuberculosis). 🫡

My aunt's family and I sincerely thank everyone for the words of encouragement and the prayerful thoughts. God bless all of youns!
I'm really sad to have lost my aunt yesterday. She was one of the most gentle and sweetest of women I have ever known. She will be missed, but it is glorious to know she has crossed over the river to rest under the shade of the trees, and reunited with family who have gone on to God's Heavenly shore.

Been working on a little experimental project of trying to convert the oldest digital photos in my ancestral collection to a physical "tintype" form. The pictures here are of 2x, 3x, and 4x great grandparents, uncles/aunts, and some cousins of the corresponding generations.
For those of you who may be interested in trying this with your own photos, you'll need to get 3 main items, a pack of 8x10 clear matte sticker sheets, a strip of .010" thick aluminum flashing(or cut up Coke cans), and some adhesive spray( I used Gorilla Glue spray).
-Clean the aluminum sheets with alcohol and let dry.
-Print your photos onto the clear matte sheets and cut the excess material away, leaving only the photo(s). When you peel away the backing paper, the photo will look similar to a negative.
-Make sure to lightly spray the metal surface with the adhesive before carefully sticking the photo onto it. Use your folded finger to lightly rub over it to ensure complete adhesiveness.
-Cut away the excessive metal and you have a real, authentic, imitation tintype. You can size them to anything you prefer. Mine are all very close approximations to 1/4 plate tintypes(3 1/4" x 4 1/4"), which were the most common ones.
If anyone tries it, post your photos. I'd like to see how they came out!
