To play the game of life with a finite mindset means that you wake up and think that you want to be the best. To play the game of life with an infinite mindset means you think, "I'm going to leave this school, this world better than I found it." @simonsinek #MSC2019
Thanks for a great chat tonight @j_carpentr! Well done! #DCmindsets
A5: Absolutely! As educators, we have one of the most important jobs because we are tasked with molding the way students think. What we do in our classrooms can shape the way kids view the world for their entire lives. To do that, our mindset must be right first. #DCmindsets
A4: The window shade analogy really spoke to me because it made me reflect on my own life and where I had sold myself short. I think the world would be much happier if we viewed life like a child, without limitations and with the shade open. #DCmindsets
A3: I think I’m guilty of giving too much extrinsic praise sometimes when I should be helping others develop intrinsic praise and motivation mindsets. I also feel like I don’t take a lot of risks & sometimes encourage others to do the same. #DCmindsets
A2: My grandmother was one of the most positive people I’ve ever known. It wasn’t because of what she had or anything she had done, but simply because she chose to be happy. Even late in life when she had plenty to be sad about, she never chose to be. #DCmindsets
I’ll also add to this that the #1 thing I hear people say when remembering her is how positive she always was. Just a reminder that our attitude has a more positive impact on people’s memories than anything else sometimes.
A1: I really like the window shade analogy in ch. 2. We have to teach Ss & ourselves to not sell ourselves short. We grow up putting limitations on ourselves and others with an “I can’t” attitude when we should have a “why not?” mindset. #DCmindsets

I love this idea! I’d love to pilot this with a few willing teachers. There are GREAT things happening in our school each day and we should share them with our colleagues and be receptive to their feedback! #culturizedawson
I would love some feedback from my colleagues! I teach 8th and 9th periods in room 138. #63impact #observeme
A5: I entered teaching thinking I could change the world all by myself & it took me a couple of years to understand the power of WE instead of ME. Building a strong team is essential. It takes all of us. Love your team, invest in each other, & spread positivity. #culturizeDawson
A4: I think this all goes back to knowing our students and the relationships we build. We can’t teach our Ss until we know them. Read this article if you have a chance. Really got me thinking. opsu.edu/www/education/THE%2… #culturizeDawson
A3: I think the term correction is more appropriate than discipline. Discipline is a punishment, but correction is guidance. Ss make mistakes & will disappoint us. That’s part of being a kid! Sometimes they simply need guidance, correction, & help understanding #culturizeDawson
