Nov. 1, 1966 — On All Saints Day, at the Pontchartrain Hotel on St. Charles Avenue, NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle, joined by House Majority Leader Hale Boggs and Senate Majority Whip Russell Long, announced that the City of New Orleans had been awarded the league’s newest franchise.
Unknown publicly at the time was that Rozelle had cut a secret deal with the two powerful members of Louisiana’s congressional delegation. In return for Boggs and Long’s support for legislation containing an antitrust exemption that would allow the NFL to merge with the American Football League, the Commissioner ensured that the Crescent City got its own professional football team. #LaLege #WhoDat

NRSC chair Tim Scott on a call w/ reporters a little while ago:
- "We are looking at a record number of toss-up races in the country, but the good news from our perspective — they’re all within striking distance." Mentions NC, ME, IA, AK, OH, NH, MI, MN, TX and GA.
- KS “more competitive than I’d like to see,” but still confident Marshall will win
- Paxton “just wrong” on midterm convention. It was "a boost in the right direction" for GOP.
Maybe the board is “athletics obsessed”.
Wowza! Former #LSU Provost Roy Haggerty unloaded about what prompted him to leave the university: @LAGovJeffLandry’s bid to revive LSU’s tradition of bringing a live tiger to football games. Haggerty said Landry started yelling during a meeting about it #lalege #lagov

Email to TV pool subscribers: "Effective today, the TV pool will not be covering events designated as pool coverage of the President. This follows the White House's position preventing CNN from fulfilling its assigned pool duties. There will be no replacement pool put in place."

It cost the National Park Service nearly $2 million to clean that up, according to the rushed, no-bid contract I just found.

For the nation’s 200th birthday, Washington built a metro system, museums, gardens, and reflecting pool at the Capitol.
For the 250th, it’s filled with black fences, white tarps, green algae, and brown grass.
A look at the mess that is DC:
