What an interesting read........... On Jeopardy the other night, the final question asked: “How many steps does the guard take during his walk across the Tomb of the Unknown?” All three contestants missed it. Tomb of the Unknown Soldier 1. How many steps does the guard take during his walk across the Tomb and why? He takes 21 steps — symbolizing the 21-gun salute, the highest military and foreign tribute. 2. How long does he pause before turning to walk back and why? He waits 21 seconds, again in honor of the same tradition. 3. Why are his gloves damp? They are lightly moistened to ensure he never loses his grip on his rifle. 4. Does he keep his rifle on the same shoulder, and if not, why? He always carries it on the shoulder farthest from the Tomb. After each crossing, he performs an about-face and moves it to the outside shoulder. 5. How often are the guards changed? Every 30 minutes, 24/7, 365 days a year. 6. What are the physical requirements for a Tomb Guard? Applicants must be between 5'10" and 6'2" and have a waist no larger than 30". Other expectations of the Guard: They devote two years to the Tomb, live in the barracks beneath it, and must refrain from drinking alcohol on or off duty for the rest of their lives. They can never swear in public or dishonor the uniform or the Tomb. After two years, they earn a wreath pin signifying their service — fewer than 400 are currently worn. If they violate the code, they must relinquish the pin. Their shoes have thick soles to protect against extreme temperatures and metal heel plates that create the crisp click when they halt. Uniforms must have zero wrinkles or lint and are inspected in a full-length mirror. For the first six months, guards do not speak to anyone and do not watch television. Their off-duty time is spent studying the 175 notable individuals buried at Arlington National Cemetery, memorizing who they are and where they rest. Among them: President Taft, Joe E. Lewis, and Audie Murphy, the most decorated WWII soldier. Every guard spends five hours daily preparing their uniform. ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM, O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM. When Hurricane Isabel approached Washington, D.C. in 2003, Congress shut down for two days. The guards were offered permission to suspend duty due to danger. They replied: “No way, Sir!” Drenched and marching through the storm, they insisted that guarding the Tomb is the highest honor, not just a task. The Tomb has been continuously guarded — day and night — since 1930. God Bless and Keep Them I don’t often encourage sharing posts, but I would be honored if this one reached as many people as possible. We should always feel proud of the men and women who serve, wherever they are stationed. Duty – Honor – Country IN GOD WE TRUST — with Herbert F Wieland.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Some claims in this post are inaccurate. The Society of the Honor Guard says the Tomb has been guarded since 1937, the guard changes hourly in winter, sentinels can drink off duty, and there is no lifetime ban on alcohol or swearing. tombguard.org/society/faq leadstories.com/hoax-alert/202…

Buc-ee’s is quietly hoping first-time visitors never learn how the store actually works. Most people pull in for gas and a bathroom. They see the beaver logo, use the cleanest restroom they’ve ever seen at a gas station, buy a bag of Beaver Nuggets, fill the tank, and leave. They never realize they just drove past: a 74,000-square-foot travel center the size of a Walmart. Brisket smoked fresh in-house that rivals dedicated BBQ restaurants. A car wash longer than a football field. 120+ gas pumps with some of the cheapest fuel prices on the highway because the business model isn’t about gas. A wall of homemade fudge cut to order. Kolaches baked fresh every morning. Jerky in 15+ flavors cut and seasoned in-store. A credit card with 5 cents off per gallon. Coffee stations with unlimited free customizations that turn a $1.50 cup into a $6 coffeehouse drink. A merchandise section larger than most clothing stores with items you can’t buy online, ever. And a deliberate store design with no seating, no trucks, no overnight parking, and no phone ordering all by choice, all for a reason. A Texan who’s visited 30+ Buc-ee’s locations told me: “Out-of-staters stop for the bathroom. Texans stop for the brisket. But nobody not even most Texans understands the business model. Buc-ee’s isn’t a gas station. It’s a destination retail store that happens to sell gas. The gas gets you in the parking lot. The 74,000 square feet inside is where the money is made.” Here are 11 things about Buc-ee’s most visitors never discover 🧵

@ChipotleTweets - Have y’all just given up ??!! I just “dined” in your restaurant in Fishkill, NY on Westage Drive and I must say in all of my years of experience, I have NEVER seen a restaurant this filthy or poorly run! Dining room is filthy with trash all over the floor…every trash can over flowing with garbage. Several tables have not been cleaned and have crap all over them. Your condiment/beverage station is a hot mess…no agua fresca’s , no napkins for your customers, 2 half empty bottles of hot sauce and trash all over this station too. Your make-up line is filthy with crusted food all across the front of the line and even your register counter is full of rice, stains and food crud everywhere…nice! Here is the best part…with all of this going on in your unclean, unsanitary and gross dining room…one of your managers is conducting an interview with a possible employee!!! What a great message to send to a potential hire…come work in a shit-hole that we can’t keep clean and don’t have the slightest awareness to keep clean. There are 4 employees on the shift right now and not one of them has even made an attempt to address any of this. So I ask again…have y’all just given up because you think customers will continue to pay $21.66 for a bowl and a drink in your restaurant this low quality ?? I can tell you we won’t! Shame on you…next tweet/call is to the New York Health Department @a11yrosw

@DutchessCoGov - just filed a complaint…the situation is dire. Perhaps an inspection is warranted. A customer is going to get sick from eating at this restaurant in my opinion…if they haven’t already.

Thanks for your reply…but let’s be honest, cleanliness and food safety are NOT “top priorities” for Chipotle. If it was true, then the location I was at would not have appeared the way it did! And by the amount of posts from other customers around the country with the exact same situation, there clearly is a breakdown between saying something is a priority and executing a priority.

I need to make a very PUBLIC announcement on behalf of younger GenXers and older Millennials. If you see someone in their 40s or 50s who seems a little boring now, I need you to understand something... We already got it in. Like...GOT. IT. IN. We are not sitting home on a Friday night because we never knew how to have fun. We are sitting home on a Friday night because we have seen enough. We went to parties in houses that should have been condemned and were almost certainly owned by the local drug dealer. We saw police lights and RAN and not across a nice, flat field. INTO THE WOODS. Do you understand the athleticism required to hurdle uprooted tree roots in platform shoes while simultaneously trying to keep your low-rise jeans from sliding completely off your ass? And somehow...we never spilled the Zima. We never spilled the Boone’s Farm. That was TALENT. We slept on floors in strange houses because the designated driver either never showed up or, in a shocking turn of events, was drunker than everybody else. There was no Uber, Life360 or Find My Friends. There was just somebody named Mike saying, “I know a shortcut.” And we FOLLOWED MIKE. We closed down bars and then decided the night was still young, so we drove to Atlantic City, where we somehow managed to get drunk, sober up, get drunk again, sober up again and then get drunk a THIRD TIME before breakfast. And according to our parents? We were at Michelle’s house. Eating pizza and watching movies. Michelle’s mother unknowingly covered for approximately 17 people every weekend. If there even was a Michelle. We drank things called Purple Passion, Mad Dog 20/20 and whatever somebody mixed inside a giant plastic garbage can. Nobody asked what was in it. You grabbed a red Solo cup and trusted the process. We went to clubs until the lights came on. Do you know the psychological damage of seeing a nightclub with the LIGHTS ON? Nothing good happens after those lights come on. We danced for four straight hours in shoes that permanently altered the structure of our feet. We made entire plans without cell phones...no texts, dropped pins or group chats...just an extremely questionable sense of direction. We rode in cars with 11 people when the vehicle legally seated five. Someone was always sitting on someone. Someone was always in the hatchback. And there was always one friend yelling, “DUCK!” when we passed a cop. So yes...now we like being home. We like sweatpants. We like cancelling plans. We like saying, “That sounds fun!” with absolutely no intention of attending. We like restaurants at 5:30 because we can get a good table. We like being home by 8:17. And if someone texts at 9:30 PM and says, “What are you doing?” Sleeping...we are sleeping. Because this is not boring my friends...this is retirement. We already played, partied and danced on the bar. We already ran from the cops through a wooded area dressed like a Spice Girl. We have stories that cannot be posted because there are still people with careers, marriages and reputations to protect. And thank GOD there were no camera phones. So kids, when you look at your Gen X and older Millennial parents sitting peacefully on the couch watching Dateline at 8 PM and think: “God, you guys are boring.” Sweetheart...oh sweetheart. You are looking at retired legends. Put some respect on our names. We're probably the reason Life360 was invented. xoxoxo (posted from someone else on FakeBook) 🤣 #genx #oldandtired

I built an AI Agent that tells you exactly how to pull $250K from the banks at 0% interest This agent will help you structure your profile properly, make an exact 250k sequence, and tell you your estimated approval odds / limits at each bank Asked it one test question. It gave me the bureau map for all 50 states, the 2 weeks per quarter when banks approve almost anyone, and the box on the application that nobody verifies This is the kind of thing banks patch once too many people know it Releasing it completely free so you can access 0% business funding they might take this down soon... so Like + RT + comment "FUNDING GPT" and it's yours (gotta be following or i can't dm you)

France does it differently when it comes to school lunches. 🇫🇷 In France, the school canteen (la cantine) isn't just a place to grab a quick bite, it is viewed as an extension of education. Lunchtime is designed to teach children food culture, nutrition, and palate appreciation through freshly prepared, multi course meals. By law, these traditional four course menus (starter, main meal, cheese, and dessert) must regularly incorporate organic and locally sourced ingredients under strict nutritional standards. Serving dishes like moules frites (steamed mussels with herbs and crispy fries) introduces kids to fresh seafood, complex flavors, and local culinary traditions from an early age, building a lifelong appreciation for real gastronomy. This footage was filmed at a public elementary school in the Haute Savoie region, where around 500 students aged 6 to 11 enjoy freshly prepared meals like this. Video by: @lessons_from_france
